League Crossover Action at rFactor 2 Le Mans

Race Report by Matthew Overton Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith August 14, 2021 - Le Mans holds a special place in our hearts. More than any other race, it's a crucible in which new technology is forged and trickles down to the cars that populate our roads around the world. It was with this impressive heritage in mind that the drivers and teams of not only the CMS VWSC, but the Race Craft Legends ILMS series made their way to La Sarthe for the 4.8 hours of Le Mans in a crossover event that featured driver teams in addition to the usual single-driver entries and a full 24-hour cycle. Conditions were hot but dry, forcing the driving teams to make some difficult choices on setup, tire, and fuel strategy in what was sure to be a crowd-pleasing event featuring some of the top talents from > more

VWSC 1971 – 2.4 Hours of Le Mans

Race Report by George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith May 22, 2021 – Today the drivers and crews all have recouped themselves after the 2-month summer break and be ready to give it all at it again with high spirits at the 3 Laps at the narrow streets of Targa Florio. An intense race for high nerves will surely be spectacular… But before that, let’s go back 2 months ago and remember what happened at the previous round, the 2.4 Hours of Le Mans. They say Le Mans picks its winners. Even the most dominant of displays, such as that of the #00 n00n Racing Lola T70 Mk3.B of Ross Smith that weekend, isn't enough sometimes. How fitting that this, a 1971 Virtual World Sportscar Championship season that was deemed to be oh-so-predictable with Yassin Marzoug dominating with 3 wins at the beginning of > more

VWSC 2021 – 60 Minutes of Long Beach

Race Report by George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith May 15, 2021 - It was truly a day for the British brand with McLaren getting a full return on the effort they put into the LMH class and getting their first win of the VWSC ‘21 Championship courtesy of Wouter de Bruijn. A total of 26 cars and drivers arrived to contest the tight streets of Long Beach. It was clear that many teams had been hard at work, though not all were able to put past difficulties behind them, as the race was not without its fair share of drama and many became “victims” of the walls and tight space of the track. Qualifying LMH-Pro Storm Rider Racing driver Ahmed Abdallah set the pace with his Nissan by grabbing pole ahead of LMH-Pro contender driver Yassin Marzoug and his Triploski GorillAAAH Nissan. VWSC 1971 – 100 Minutes of Spa

Race Report by George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith May 8, 2021 - The annual 100 min historic race for sports cars, took place on the magnificent Spa-Francorchamps circuit without any bitching and binding from any outside organizations, or complaints from the participants and used the full-scale circuit, ignoring the “safety chicane” put in at Malmedy for the puny little Grand Prix cars and their timid drivers. The Francorchamps circuit was at its glorious best during practice, which was held under a clear beautiful sky, much to the pleasure of few English drivers that have been tormented by rain the past few weeks on the island. The entry for the Spa race was not large, but it had all the necessary ingredients with the Rookie Monsters and CMS Pro 5-Liter Porsches, for Ben Boorman, Jon Uyan, and Jerry Chen, the sole existing flat-12 Alfa > more

VWSC 1971 – 100 Minutes of Brands Hatch

Race Report by Matthew Overton & George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith April 3, 2021 - Southeast England provided a beautiful race weekend for the 4th round of the CMS VWSC ‘71 Championship, much to the delight of the drivers and crews. On the deceptively simple Brands Hatch GP circuit, the drivers, in particular, were relieved to be pitted only against each other rather than a wet track! A total of 20 drivers presented themselves for the briefing for the marshals, with all the levels of competition well represented. After the practice sessions, it was on to qualifying, where Ahmed Abdalla (Purist) in his Ferrari 512M took top honors with a 1:21.132, ahead of Marouane el Idrissi (Pro) and Wouter de Bruijn (Pro) in another Ferrari and Porsche 917K respectively. Setting the pace in Am was Leone Gennari in another Ferrari with a 1:25.283. > more

VWSC 1971 – 1.2 Hours of Sebring

Race Report by George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen Broadcast by Ross “Tnadz” Smith March 6, 2021 – On a rain-soaked day at Sebring, Ben Boorman almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the historic era of sports car racing, in his Rookie Monsters Porsche 917K car to the overall win at the 1.2 Hours of Sebring. He ultimately finished 2nd coming from dead last some mere 30 secs of winner Ahmed Abdalla, who marked his first win VWSC in 1971 and Scuderia Cavalli Ferrari’s maiden victory. The weather-plagued race played into the advantage of the German car, which took five of the top 10 finishing positions overall, and remarkably majority being Purist entries, typically splitting the top of the field with the Pro class. The twice around the clock endurance race traditionally held at the last weekend of January is for many of us the start of the racing season. With its high speeds and high banks, it’s a spectacle on its own. The sun may rise at Daytona in the United States, but it was the machine from the Rising Sun country where the day belonged. In GTE 2 teams dominated their classes respectively: the CMS Pro Ferrari and the Trash Panda Racing Aston Martin. Sansano gets a post-race 2-grid place penalty gifting Marouane el Idrissi first season win Crossing the line at Sebring. Rain HAS ARRIVED! For the first time in the season, we got some rain for VWSC 1.2 Hrs of Sebring, producing some nail-biting racing and a share of randomness due to on the fly strategies… The race was showing early on to be anything but usual with having a shower 5 minutes before qualifying. NARS VWSC 1.2 Hrs of Sebring

Race Report by Matthew Overton Photos by M Overton and J Chen November 5, 2020 - Another clear and warm race day (thanks George!) greeted drivers for the NARS VWSC 1.2 Hrs of Sebring, producing some scintillating racing and more than a fair share of heartbreak. LMP and GTE pole-sitters Ernest Dela Cruz and Jon Uyan delivered strong qualifying laps and led the field cleanly through the opening lap to set the table for an exciting race. On race start, Cameron Sansano battled Dela Cruz for the race lead for much of the first stint, however, an off gave the race leader some much-appreciated breathing room, and then a fuel calculation error ended Sansano’s challenge permanently. From there, Dela Cruz ceded the lead only briefly during the final pitstop, taking the chequered flag for the overall race win. VWSC 60 Minutes of Laguna Seca

Race Report by George Angelidis Images by Jerry Chen October 24, 2020 - 29 drivers (11 LMP and 18 GTE) took the green flag at another hot Laguna Seca race. NARS VWSC Laguna Seca

Race Report by Matthew Overton October 22, 2020 - The Weathertech Laguna Seca is always an exciting track with drivers constantly busy in their own races and then with the challenges presented by multi-class racing on a tight track. The warm and dry weather did not add to the difficulties of the day, but this did not mean that this race did not have its dramas, all of which contributed to some interesting developments in the series standings. In total, 21 drivers (8 LMP and 13 GTE) took the green, though only 15 finished the race to see the chequered flag. Some aggressive racing, occasional driver error, and some unexpected difficulties in the pit lane all contributed to dashing the hopes of several championship contenders. None of these difficulties affected JT Tami however, as he powered his way to yet another LMP2 and overall race win, outlasting polesitter Cameron > more

NARS VWSC Petit LeMans

Race Report by Matthew Overton October 8, 2020 - While the forecast threatened menacingly, fortune smiled, or at least hold off the rain, for Round 6 of the NARS VWSC Series, back at Road Atlanta. The race itself however was not so kind, with almost all the drivers having difficulties despite the clear weather. This, combined with LMPC and GTE AM leaders Matthew Overton and Don Fryman failing to grid, has made for some dramatic changes in the championship standings. In LMP2, JT Tami took a P3 start on the grid to patiently track down Jason Whited, passing him mid-race and then leading 46 of 47 last laps of the race for his third win of the season. Norm Graf rounded out the podium in an LMP2 field that straggled through the final standings. LMPC looked to be a close competition between Tom Aitken and Bob Robertson until a > more
