iRacing GT3 Sprint Series kicks off new season at Spa!

by Tim Collier The long-standing tradition of Wednesday nights at Champion Motorsports reserved for an iRacing Series continued with the start of a new series, new format, and a field that was beyond expectations and the envy of many leagues. It was a return to GT3 cars and Pro/Am classes that brought both old and new faces to the series for 2023, and with an astounding 54 cars taking the grid to start the season, the anticipation of a new season along with the field size ramped up the nerves for all that started the race! The qualifying session would see Miguel Colon take the pole position with a fast lap of 2:16.601, edging out league newcomer Tyler Pinheiro only 3/100ths of a second behind, the two of them being the old drivers in the 2:16s! Parker takes home championship in iRacing LMP2s, while Lidkea slams the door on the Radical cup

All season long, competition has been fierce in both the LMP2 and Radical classes. With multiple championship bids still on the line, Wednesday's race was do-or-die for the top contenders. In the LMP2s, Michael Parker seemed hard to beat with four wins and a second place before last night, yet JT Tami was still only 11 points behind. An upset was not to be, however, as Parker won the race, securing his championship victory. In fact, the top three all finished in order, making the championship order Parker, Tami, and Kris Hudson. There were no changes down the order, apart from newcomer Jose D'Oleo coming in to score some last minute points! For the Radicals, Drew Lidkea won the championship by nine points over a very dialed in Dick Mueller. Mueller missed the first two races, but made up for it by winning every other race! The CMS rF2 Week in Review: Gray, Mountjoy and Brew Notch First Series Wins at Watkins Glen

Story Credits: Matthew Overton - Photo Credits: Jerry Chen It was out to upstate New York and a classic American track for both NARS and VWSC this week as the Hypercars and GTs strutted their stuff at Watkins Glen and the demanding Boot layout.  Both events hosted strong fields of first 29 cars (15 HY/14 GT) and 30 cars (11 HY/19 GT) that guaranteed exciting action at every point of the track for the 60 racing laps. NARS qualifying saw the gauntlet thrown down across the classes with personal bests being set up and down the field.  Series newcomer, PRO Luka Gray unlocked the potential of his Toyota GR010 to set a blazing 1:30.369 with the next four Hypercars within a second of that time.  Top Hypercar AM was Jerry Chen in his Porsche 908-4 at 1:31.850, well ahead of his closest rival but laying down a > more
