iRTES Round 2 Recap: GermanPitbullzRacing and Moradness Conquer a Wild Five Hours at Red Bull Ring
Dry speed, a 90-minute Austrian storm, one weather-driven Code 60 and a late return to sunshine turned Round 2 into the most strategically complex race of the 2026 season.
The second round of the 2026 Champion Motorsports iRacing Team Endurance Series delivered almost every condition the Red Bull Ring could offer. A gray but dry summer morning carried the field through practice, qualifying and the opening hour of the five-hour race. Then the wind arrived, the expected light rain became a sustained storm, and the race changed from a conventional endurance contest into a test of tire judgment, fuel windows, visibility and survival.
For roughly 90 minutes the Red Bull Ring stayed wet enough to make every braking zone and every multi-class pass a calculation. Near the end of the storm, Race Control called the race's only Code 60 specifically for track wetness. Then, almost as quickly as the weather had deteriorated, the rain began to fade. The sun returned, the circuit dried, and the final couple of hours unfolded on a track that transitioned all the way back toward dry racing.
Through every phase, two teams that had already shown their strength at Homestead emerged on top. GermanPitbullzRacing Alpha converted its GTP pace into victory after finishing second in Round 1, while Moradness Squad made it two GT3 wins in two races and put itself in commanding position entering the St. Petersburg finale.
A Race in Three Acts
Act I: Dry, Overcast and Fast
The day began overcast but dry, and the early timing reflected a circuit that was ready for speed. GermanPitbullzRacing Alpha started from the overall pole with the Porsche 963, PCA Sim Racing 963 lined up second, and The Organization Racing third. In GT3, Moradness Squad headed Quokka Racing at the front of the class.
The early dry phase also produced virtually all of the race's outright best laps. The timing export shows the fastest team laps arriving inside the opening two dozen laps across both classes. Leon Friedrisczyk's 1:20.806 became the GTP benchmark, while Moradness Squad's 1:29.294 was the quickest GT3 lap of the race.
That early pace mattered, but it soon became only one part of the equation. Once the weather began moving in, the race stopped being about who could extract the best dry lap and became a five-hour exercise in adaptation.
Act II: The Storm Arrives
The wind strengthened and the rain that had been expected to remain relatively light instead settled into a steady downpour. For approximately 90 minutes, the Red Bull Ring became a completely different circuit. Heavy braking at Turns 1, 3 and 4 became more difficult, standing moisture reduced confidence on corner entry, and visibility complicated the already demanding closing speeds between GTP and GT3 traffic.
The fuel-tank limitations in both classes added another strategic layer. Teams were not simply choosing when to change tires or when to put another driver in the car; they also had to consider how each stop fit into a fixed fuel window. Some lineups used highly uneven driver workloads, while others divided the race almost equally. That variety is visible in the final lap distributions and reflects how differently teams approached the changing conditions.
GermanPitbullzRacing split its winning GTP effort 115 laps for Christopher Kindler and 80 for Leon Friedrisczyk. PCA used Christopher Paiz for 137 laps and Matt Quinn for 58. The Organization Racing took a far more balanced approach, with Eric and Evan Bruecker completing 99 and 95 laps respectively.
GT3 showed the same contrast. SimHQ Motorsports WHITE placed 121 laps on Shawn Harvey and 56 on James Andrew, while Longhorn Racing Chrome used C. Michael Parker for 114 and Brett Stephens for 63. At the other end of the spectrum, cmsracing.com AM divided its 176 laps almost perfectly between Lance Williams, David Nelson and Drew Lidkea at 62, 59 and 55 laps.
Act III: Code 60, Sunshine and a Drying Finish
Near the end of the storm, conditions deteriorated enough that Race Control called the race's only Code 60 for track wetness. It was an important first feature-race test of the simplified procedure introduced after Homestead: cars remained rolling, the field was controlled at Code 60 speed, and the race was neutralized without stopping cars on the circuit.
The timing of the neutralization also created one more strategic decision point. With pit lane generally remaining open under the revised procedure, teams had to weigh service against track position while the field was slowed.
After the Code 60, the weather finally broke. The rain eased, the sun appeared, and the final hours unfolded on a track moving progressively from very wet back toward dry. That final transition rewarded teams that had preserved the car, avoided excessive incidents and left themselves with enough strategic flexibility to react one more time.
GTP: GermanPitbullzRacing Converts Pace into Victory
At Homestead, GermanPitbullzRacing Alpha had arguably been the fastest GTP car without taking the win. The Porsche started from pole, led 118 laps and set the fastest race lap, only for PCA Sim Racing 963 to win the four-hour opener.
Austria changed the ending.
Christopher Kindler and Leon Friedrisczyk led 149 of the 195 laps at Red Bull Ring and won by 41.750 seconds over PCA. Friedrisczyk's 1:20.806 was also the fastest GTP lap. Combined with the 13 incident points recorded by the team, it was the complete result GermanPitbullzRacing had threatened to produce since the season began.
PCA Sim Racing 963 was never far away. Christopher Paiz and Matt Quinn completed all 195 laps, led the other 46, recorded only 10 incidents and finished second. The most remarkable statistic is that every lap of the five-hour race was led by either GermanPitbullzRacing or PCA. Across two rounds, the two Porsche teams have now traded wins and second-place finishes.
The Organization Racing made it two podiums in two championship races. Eric and Evan Bruecker completed 194 laps in the BMW, finishing third for the second consecutive round. Their 1:21.206 fastest lap was only 0.400 seconds from GermanPitbullzRacing's benchmark, further evidence that the top of the GTP field was closely matched in outright dry pace.
cmsracing.com Endurance, with Tarcisio Carvalho and James Sauceman, completed 130 laps before disconnecting. The Acura still collected fourth-place class points, but the 34 incidents and lost distance made Red Bull Ring a more difficult weekend than Homestead.
cmsracing.com Titanium completed 42 laps before its race ended. Although the raw iRacing export displayed the entry as DQ / Scoring Invalidated, the team is officially credited with fifth place in GTP and 26 championship points based on its finishing position relative to the other GTP entries.

GT3: Moradness Makes It Two for Two
If there was any question whether Moradness Squad's Homestead victory was repeatable, Red Bull Ring answered it.
Miguel Colon, Alex Rogers and Justin Cornett completed 178 laps and delivered a second consecutive GT3 victory. Moradness also produced the fastest GT3 lap of the race, a 1:29.294 from Rogers, and emerged from the changing weather with the same result it achieved in Florida: 35 championship points.
Quokka Racing was equally consistent. John Marjoribanks and Christian Youngwall finished second for the second straight race, also completing 178 laps. Quokka's 1:29.825 was within 0.531 seconds of the class benchmark and kept the Lamborghini firmly in the championship fight.
Team Brake Fade continued one of the strongest upward trends in the series. After climbing from 13th to fourth at Homestead, James Foster and Brian Blanchette started fifth in class at Red Bull Ring and finished third. The McLaren completed 177 laps and moves into the finale with consecutive top-four results.
Longhorn Racing Chrome may have produced the most complete recovery weekend in GT3. After losing positions through a post-race penalty at Homestead, Chrome finished second in Saturday's Sprint and then advanced from seventh on the GT3 grid to fourth in the five-hour race. C. Michael Parker and Brett Stephens accumulated only 9 incidents, the lowest total of any classified GT3 finisher.
SimHQ Motorsports WHITE carried momentum from its Saturday Sprint victory into fifth place in the feature. Shawn Harvey and 50+ championship contender James Andrew completed 177 laps, one of four GT3 teams tied on that distance behind the two leaders.
PCA Sim Racing GT3 finished sixth after starting third in class. The Porsche remained fast — its 1:30.091 was among the better dry laps — but the final result left it just outside the top five.
cmsracing.com AM completed a major turnaround from Homestead. After the Round 1 driver-availability problem ended its opener almost immediately, the team arrived in Austria with all three drivers engaged. Lance Williams was second-fastest in FP1, David Nelson finished third in the Sprint, and Williams, Nelson and Drew Lidkea combined for seventh in the feature with only 14 incidents.
ThumbTech Motorsport finished eighth, followed by Team Black in ninth. Octo Sins v1Kings returned after missing Homestead and completed 93 laps before disconnecting, while SOELPEC Precision Racing suffered the largest setback among the established contenders. SOELPEC had finished third at Homestead and showed major speed in Austria — Blake Reynolds' 1:29.716 was the second-fastest GT3 lap of the entire race — but the team completed only 56 laps and finished 11th in class.

The Numbers Behind the Weather
The changing conditions dramatically widened the gap between outright dry pace and five-hour average pace. GermanPitbullzRacing's winning GTP average was 1:32.403 against a 1:20.806 best lap. In GT3, Moradness averaged 1:41.480 against a 1:29.294 best.
More revealing was how close the leading GT3 teams remained over the full race. The average lap times of Moradness, Quokka, Team Brake Fade, Longhorn Chrome, SimHQ and PCA GT3 were separated by only 0.649 seconds. Four of those teams — Brake Fade, Chrome, SimHQ and PCA — completed exactly 177 laps.
That is a strong indication that Red Bull Ring was not decided by one magical wet-weather setup. It was decided by how well each team managed the complete sequence: early dry pace, the wet crossover, sustained rain, the Code 60, the drying line and the final return toward dry conditions.
Championship Picture: Everything Points to St. Petersburg
GTP: A Dead Heat at the Top
GermanPitbullzRacing's victory and PCA's second place create the cleanest possible championship setup. Both teams leave Austria with 67 points. Each has one victory and one second-place finish, meaning even the first two countback criteria are currently identical.
The Organization Racing sits only seven points behind at 60 after consecutive third-place finishes. That keeps the BMW mathematically and realistically involved. cmsracing.com Endurance is fourth at 56, with cmsracing.com Titanium now fifth on 51 after its corrected 26-point Red Bull Ring result.
GT3: Moradness Has Match Point
Moradness Squad is now a perfect two-for-two and leads Quokka Racing 70-64. Team Brake Fade is third with 58, PCA Sim Racing GT3 fourth with 51 and SOELPEC fifth with 50.
The six-point advantage gives Moradness a straightforward objective at St. Petersburg: any podium finish guarantees the GT3 championship regardless of what Quokka does. If Quokka wins the finale, Moradness would need to finish fourth or worse for the Lamborghini team to have an opportunity to overturn the lead.
Brake Fade remains a serious mathematical outsider. A victory would take the McLaren to 93 points, but it would also need Moradness ninth or worse and Quokka fourth or worse.
50+ Championship Adds Another Finale Battle
James Andrew used SimHQ's fifth-place GT3 points to move into the 50+ championship lead with 45 points. David Nelson follows on 40 after cmsracing.com AM's seventh-place finish. Both have now competed in the two events required for award eligibility.
Drew Lidkea and Lance Williams each scored 24 points at Red Bull Ring and now sit tied for third on 24. Larry Ford and Mike Tyler have 23, Matthew Overton 18 and Nick McLaughlin remains at zero. Lidkea, Williams, Ford, Tyler and Overton must all race at St. Petersburg to satisfy the two-event minimum.
In GTP, Chad Henson remains on 35 points from PCA's Homestead victory. He did not compete at Red Bull Ring, so he must participate in the finale to meet the minimum two-event requirement. Of the currently registered GTP 50+ contenders, Steve Knight has not competed in either points race and can no longer reach the two-event minimum.
Other Stakes: The Clean Team Awards
The season's Clean Team awards are also taking shape. Among GTP teams that have competed in both points races, PCA Sim Racing 963 has accumulated 22 incidents, three fewer than GermanPitbullzRacing Alpha. The Organization Racing has 31.
In GT3, Longhorn Racing Chrome's exceptionally clean Austrian race puts it at 16 incidents for the season, narrowly ahead of cmsracing.com AM at 19. Moradness sits at 30, PCA GT3 at 31 and SimHQ at 32. Teams must compete in all three races to be eligible, making St. Petersburg the final test of both speed and discipline.
Next Stop: St. Petersburg
Two very different circuits have produced two very different endurance races. Homestead was a four-hour event defined by difficult passing, oval-to-infield transitions, darkness and four Code 60 periods. Red Bull Ring added another hour, elevation, a sustained rainstorm, a wetness-related Code 60 and a complete return to dry conditions.
Now the championship heads somewhere else entirely: the St. Petersburg Street Circuit on September 13 for the 3-hour, 20-minute finale.
The walls will be closer, track position will matter immediately, and the shortest race of the championship will leave less time to recover from mistakes. In GTP, GermanPitbullzRacing and PCA arrive tied on points with matching win/runner-up records. In GT3, Moradness arrives with two wins and a six-point lead over the only team that has finished second in both races.
After five hours and three seasons of weather in one afternoon at Red Bull Ring, the 2026 iRTES championship has exactly what a three-race season needs: everything still matters when the field arrives at the finale.
