CMS Silver Anniversary

MNRL and NARS Combined Celebration GT Series

It is 25 years (already!) for CMS and it’s been an exciting ride from the beginning for NARS and more recently, MNRL.  To celebrate a quarter century of building our sim racing community, MNRL and NARS will be hosting a special, 8-race series featuring the FIA GT1 and GT2 cars of the late 1990s.

Racing on four tracks across three continents, competitors will be able to test their chosen car from each class on all four tracks over the course of 5 weeks, scoring points in each race for several driver championships and trophies.

MNRL will start the action with GT2s on Tuesdays and then NARS will run the GT1’s at the same track on Thursdays.

The NARS Steam Workshop item will be updated with the cars and tracks necessary for this series – make sure to be subscribed to the item and check it to confirm you have the series tracks linked to it as well.  The car pack is none other than the WSC1998 mod by Storm Gang Simulation.  Featuring the following cars:

Championships

Drivers will choose one GT1 and one GT2 car which they will drive at each of the four tracks. A driver changing a car will automatically forfeit any points won previously in that category.

There will be three individual driver class championships for MNRL and NARS – PRO, PRO-AM and AM. The three driver classes will also compete for a combined championship across MNRL and NARS using their results from both GT1 and GT2 races.

There are also special driver trophies for both NARS and MNRL across all classes: Hard Charger (most gains from starting position) and In the Groove (most consistent pace)

Driver Class

Drivers who have raced in CMS before will have been assigned in the stratification for 2024 with the option of moving up a driver class, for the year, if they wish. They will then compete in the championship as allowed by their driver class. Drivers new to CMS will be placed in the PRO-AM car category and then adjusted by the admins by the end of the season, as necessary.

Drivers will be listed in the championships standings for their class stratification. No changes in driver class will be allowed unless as a result of admin decision.

Points

Drivers will all receive points based on their overall finishing position as follows:

40-38-36-34-32-30-28-26-24-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2

Hard Charger Trophy: Drivers gaining the most track positions from their starting positions will receive 4 points. In case of ties, the points are split as follows:

2 drivers=2 points each

3 or more drivers=1 point each

The Hard Charger trophies will be awarded to drivers in MNRL, NARS and then to the driver accumulating the most points in the combined event results

In the Groove Cup: Points are gained by drivers driving the most consistently in the race compared to their own fastest race lap as follows: 5-4-3-2-1. Trophies will be awarded in MNRL, NARS and for the combined series.

Minimum race distance to score points is 60% and no points will be awarded for DNS or DNF (including for special trophies).

Details on how to follow championship results are provided in the MNRL and NARS Discord channels.

Liveries and Numbers

For this series, drivers may choose from the default liveries, reclaim a personal livery included with the mod or run a loose livery. Personal liveries may be ‘borrowed’ with the permission of the original driver.

We will use the latest stable build of rFactor 2.
The damage setting is 75% (NARS) and 50% (MNRL).
Crash Recovery is off. Drive carefully!
Driving View is open.
Auto Clutch, Blip, Lift and Brakes/Clutch are the only rF2 global aids available.

Weather will always be live weather conditions.

The server name will be “CMS SilverGT [track name]”.

The server race password will be provided when the server is rebooted on race day.

General

The rf2la app will be used to record the hot laps and instructions for following the series standings will be provided at (must have joined CMS Discord to open links) NARS Links and MNRL Links

All races will be live-streamed on the CMS YouTube channel.

Race Communications

We will use the CMS Discord rFactor 2 voice channel for race communications.

The voice channel is only required to monitor race control during the event. You do not need a microphone if you do not want to speak.

If you have a microphone, please set it to “push to talk”. If that just doesn’t work for you, PLEASE set the voice-activated audio level up considerably so your coughing, wheezing or sim controls grinding isn’t “shared” with everyone else. Don’t be “that driver”.

Chatter during free practice is permitted and encouraged! For qualification and races, please be brief in your communication on Discord and talk only if absolutely necessary. One sentence then quiet is requested. No text chat AT ALL during qualification or race.

Abusive and/or profane in-game chat, Discord, or forum post language may lead to that driver receiving a sanction up to and including a ban from CMS.

Should a driver join the event server without being in the Discord channel, they will be reminded in rFactor 2 text chat to do so. If they have not joined the voicechat by the start of the driver brief, they will be removed from the race server by race control until they rejoin with Discord active and monitoring the race channel.

Competition Rules and Stewarding

This series will conform to the CMS General Competition Rules that may be found on the CMS Discord Server. All drivers are expected to know the GCR and shall be required to abide by them. Additional track-specific instructions will be provided via a drivers race brief that will be posted on #rf2CMSSilver-info and summarized prior to the start of the qualifying session on race night.

Pit Entry/Exit Lines: On circuits that a line to indicate the pit entry or/and exit lanes, crossing this line to enter or exit the pits is prohibited unless specifically permitted in a pre-race brief. Otherwise, it is permissible for tires to step on the white line, but crossing the line with one tire completely will result in a post-race Incident Review Request and penalty.

In the pit box, drivers will be required to center their car on the outside of the pit box farthest from the pit lane to ensure that two cars can get serviced at the same time in the event of pit box sharing.

There are no live stewards. A post-race Incident Review Request may be submitted through the IRR Discord for adjudication with any resultant penalties to be served in the next race competed by the driver(s) at fault.

rFactor 2 system assigned penalties during races must be served. The Race Director will only have the capability to clear penalties and driver DQ during practice on the race server and then AFTER qualification but before the race.

Drivers are strongly advised to reboot their computer just before joining the server on race night.

It is strongly recommended that drivers use an ethernet cable connection, not a WiFi connection. Drivers with obvious and continual connection problems on race night may be required by the race admin to leave the server before the race.

Thank you, good luck and have fun.
