    Default Widescreen LCD Monitor Questions

How many of you are using a widescreen LCD monitor for racing?

Bob, I know you have that 37" behemoth, or whatever size that is...

    My questions are:

    1. What resolution are you running in rFactor, GTL, GTR2, and on your native desktop?

    2. What video card do you have hooked to it?

    3. Have you run into any issues with any games that wouldn't list a widescreen resolution?

I'm on the verge of buying a widescreen monitor so I can see more out the front and sides of my cars while racing, and so I can turn off the virtual mirror....but my concerns are that I'll get it, and going to 1680x1050, even with the ATI X1900 XTX it won't be able to crank frames with great graphic options turned on.

So if anyone here can help me make my decision.....I'd really appreciate it!

Tim my desktop and all games are at 1920 x 1080 x32
I'm currently using an nVidia 7950GX2

Dell makes the very best Widescreens (30") for about $1200 - $1400
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...oc=W3007&s=dhs

Some games have to be "hacked" to make them work in widescreen (not many) and usually it's just a matter of going into the "config.ini" file and changing it very easy

here is a link to a "Widescreen gaming" place
    http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...Games_List_-_A

Hope this all helps..also any lower than 1920 x 1080 on 30" screens or bigger don't look so hot.IMO
Your video card should be fine.

    That is pretty cheap! Wow!
My old screen was a 21.5" Samsung 1600x1200 and it was nice..but...when I jumped up to a 37".... Holy Moly what a difference..I'll never go back!
Man..I'd go for the Dell 30" all day long!

That 22" should do well for you.

No, I'm not going to be in any Target ads. We are going to Colorado next month, back to Disney in May, the flying to Chicago in August because Rob really wants to ride in a plane. He will start school this year so we'll let him fly before it starts.

That's my man Philip....taking the family out for some fun!

I've been doing some reading, and there's a lot of negative comments regarding the 22" LCD's, with most saying that they are simply 20" LCD's that are being "stretched" to fit the 22" screen, and in turn they have uneven color bands, narrow viewing angles, backlight seeping through at the top and bottom of the screen, and the response rates are gray to gray response times which are deceiving as response rates should be for black to white transition, not gray to gray. It's dark to light to dark response times that are the reasons for ghosting in the first place.

So....I'm back at square one, deciding on a 20" widescreen, or holding off until the next gen TFT's hit the market. Lots to think about....and my desk doesn't have a spot big enough for a monitor bigger than a 24" (and that's questionable!!)

Thanks for all the feedback guys....it's been a tremendous help!
