Default iRacing News - Fun Series @ Laguna Seca

iRacing News - Fun Series @ Laguna Seca

June 15, 2010 ... LAGUNA SECA, USA (CMS) - It was a great start to the Champion
Motorsports fun series. Pole sitter Troy Dalton took the green flag and held off
a hard charging Brenden Johnson and Devin Obrien. Obrien was able to get by Johnson
and the two battle for the position for many laps. This allowed Dalton to gradually
slip away from the field and he earned the first victory of the four race series.

Field taking the grid for the first of four races in the CMS Fun Series.

"I think this was a very successful start to the new Fun Series and I'm looking
forward to Summit Point. Only fourteen drivers took the grid, but thirty-one drivers
showed for practice and that's pretty good considering how many other hosted races
there were in that time slot," Dalton said. Next week the Fun Series ventures to
Summit Point for 22 laps of multi-class racing.

Eventual winner, Troy Dalton, leads the field into turn one.

Note from Series Director:
It has been brought to my attention that there a number of people who are concerned
about racing on an open server. I assure you, at Champion Motorsports, good clean
racing is of the utmost importance...even on open servers. We encourage all levels
of ability to participate, but demand gentlemanly behavior both on and off track.
I will make every effort to prevent participation by those individuals who cannot
adhere to the iRacing Rules and Regulations. All open server races are reviewed in
their entirety and anyone who is deemed to be reckless or out of control will be
warned. Additionally, anyone who continually shows a lack or respect for others
or intentionally wrecks others, will be placed on the banned list and they will not
be allowed to participate in any CMS sponsored events and if necessary, an official
protest will be lodged with iRacing.

Nice job on the iRacing fun series Troy

Your making me want to get iRacing again. Might just get the free month for a few runs with you boys.

The multiclass entry level cars are the right way to gain participation with iRacing, IMHO. Everyone on the system has them and the new users too. You should have close and extremely fun racing. with each car having its own strenths. I'd stick with this format, run it road and oval, to get both groups participating and have specials with the other highend cars and purchase tracks every month or so.

Great job so far man

You should definitely take advantage of the free month!

We would love to see more existing Champion members join us, even if for only a short time. This combination of cars is really quite fun, with the Legend Coupe and Spec Racer being very competitive with one another. The Solstice is a little slower, but it is also very fun to drive, and it's not so slow that it is a rolling chicane.

It may be a little too early to declare the Fun Series a success, but I'm happy with our first effort. There were a ton of hosted races going on last night, not to mention the official iRacing races. That's a lot of competition for a finite number of drivers. The fact that 31 drivers showed up to check it out was encouraging.

I'd even add the Jetta so there's competition for the Solstice. You'd have a 4 class field !!!!

To take it further how about.

Radical, Spec Ford, Jetta, Solstice. Two Proto's and 2 GT's

And how would a 4 class oval race shake out? with...

Monte Carlo, SK Modified, Silver Crown, and Legends.

All running at the same time !!! Think of the possibilities... WHO KNOWS, I don't think its ever been tried before. A CMS first ???

HEHEHE

Going to have to wait for joining the iRacing action. Too much going on in July and August. But might be free and have some $$$ in the fall.

I'd actually considered adding the Jetta, but it's not a "Free" car. So, if you didn't own it, you wouldn't be able to participate in the series. One of the aspects of this initial fun series was to use all free content. Hence the current combination of cars and tracks. We'll likely expand it in the future, but the more cars you add to a series, the greater the chances are that you will end up excluding someone because they don't own a particular vehicle.

The Silver Crown is definately one of those cars that isn't owned by a large number of people, therefore, we would likely end up excluding quite a few drivers. When it comes to the cars, I try to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone owns them all, simply because they may never have the desire to drive it. Tracks...well, that's a different story. Unless you're strictly an oval or road racer, there is really no reason not to own all the tracks...but, that's just my opinion. I'm not saying that I'm not sensitive to those who don't own all the tracks, I'm just less apt to exclude a track from a schedule.

However, I never say never. If we are able to build a regular membership base that were to rival the ILMS series, then we would have carte blanche to run any combination we desired. However, until that time, I think we need to cater to the masses whenever possible.

Also, if you haven't read my post in the Future of CMS iRacing Division, check it out. It will give you some insight into some of the ideas that I have for the future. Keep in mind, that nothing is ever written in stone and there are currently no hard plans for season three yet.

Cheers,
Troy
