Congratulations to Brian van Beusekom for winning round 2 of the Champion Motorsports 8 Round Championship for e-Sports Time Trials! Round 2 was contested with Race Room Experience and an amazing Historic Corvette at Suzuka West! Brian layed down a smoking time almost a second faster than what was a very quick field of drivers entering. A shout out to Jon Uyan and Bailey Lagstrum for rounding out the podium!

Also since we had 15 drivers we earned a bonus race with this car and track!!! Details will be posted soon on the race. That will be an additional opportunity to earn bonus points for the contest!

I am happy to announce the next round of the CMS Time Trial Championship!!!! We will be using Automobilista and the Formula-Vintage (F-Vintage 1967) F1 Cars! Your challenge this round will be to use any of the F-Vintage 67 vehicles to turn your best lap at Johanesburg Historic Layout (aka Kyalami South African GP). This is an amazing car, and an amazing track for them, back to the glory days of racing and very GPL like! Again you may use any of the 1967 F-Vintage cars for this contest!

You have until end of day May 15th to get your lap time in!!!

We will be using the following ongoing leaderboard

This is the way it works with Automobilista

Launch the game, and select the F-Vintage 1967 cars.
    Then click on Time Trial
Choose the Track and start lapping!
your time will be automatically added to the leaderboard.

Important note for this round. Automobilista displays your Steam name in the leaderboard, and I don't know everyone's steam name, so please as you post a lap or improve a lap share it here with your Name, Ranking position and the laptime and I will go validate it. If you improve it please update it in this thread. The accountability will be on every driver to post here so I don't miss anyone.

Last but not least, if we get 15 drivers in the contest I will host a bonus race on this track/sim for extra points!!!

Yesterday afternoon I went to a book signing by Brian Redman, hosted jointly by the Boston BMWCCA and PCA. Brian was joined by one of his former rides, BMW CSL #59, which he drove to victory in the 1976 Daytona 24hrs with Peter Gregg and John Fitzpatrick.

It was a beautiful day for an outing here in the northeast, especially with my friend Phil doing the driving in his '72 3.0 CSi. Lots of other attendees were of a similar mind, and the parking lot was littered with nice cars, including a shiny new M4GTS, a Ferrari 360, an E-Type Jag, a Ford GT, and numerous other Bimmers and Porkas.

Like many drivers of his day, Brian was a jack-of-all-trades behind the wheel, and jumped around from F2 to F5000 to WSC to F1 to Can-Am to IMSA, frequently many of them in the same season. He spoke for more than an hour about his amazing career, some highlights of which I remember:

    - Driving the wheels off an Austin Mini, literally: the front left wheel came off right over the lug nuts, which were still on the car
    - Jim Clark teaching him his exercise regimen of leg lifts: once a day he lifted them out of bed in the morning, then back into bed that night
    - Crawling back to the hotel with Jo Siffert at 4am after winning at Spa, then partying with the mechanics- his wife locked him out and the hotel manager had to beg her to let him in to keep the noise down
    - His favorite car was the Porsche 908, despite the fact that it nearly killed him at the Targa Florio. He slid into a concrete mile marker sideways, which ruptured the fuel tanks and ignited the car in a fireball. Redman was extremely lucky his belts released, and he was able to jump from the car before his eyes swelled shut, because there was of course no one around to put him out.
    - His other life-threatening accident happened in a Can-Am Chapparal at St Jovite, when the car lifted off and slowly back-flipped, breaking the roll bar when it came down upside down, and Brian's neck with it.
    - Brian had a long career, for a driver of the era. He drove only one race for Ferrari- the Old Man pushed him so hard that Brian turned down an offer to race in red for the rest of the year, because he was sure he would be dead before the end of the season.
    - Jo Bonnier was known to cut drivers off as he passed. Brian said you knew you'd have to lift if he came over, or he'd hit you, and in fact that's what finally killed him at Le Mans.
    - When asked about his least favorite car, he said it was the Porsche 917, which, ironically, I was due to drive that very night in Assetto Corsa with the Historics division. He said the car would not hold a line down the Mulsanne straight due to aerodynamic instability, and was known to break in half when things went south- literally separating around the cockpit, which was not a comforting thought. It was better in 1970, in fact he co-drove the winning 917 in the '70 Spa 1000kms, despite the car twice shredding its tires on the way to the Masta kink during practice!

Great stuff! Lots more stories to be read in his book, "Daring Drivers and Deadly Tracks", quite the history of an amazing career.

Another wet race? Kinda.. Getting into the car for the last 2 stints of the race on a drying track and taking slicks.. was fun.
Driver line up for this race was Jules Goux, Greg Hall & me. Troy was in engineer position for ~7 hrs. Team work.

The first of 8 rounds was organized here on the CMS forums and hosted in Assetto Corsa with the NA Miata street car at Donington. Mihaly was fast early over the two week time period and was never lower than second place in the standings. Michael Kolar would hold on to a podium after leading for a while as well as this driver of the real car was very impressive as well. Late in the contest CMS Historics and iRacing regular Matt Geddes came in for a 2nd place run to be on the podium as well.

Here is a look at the fastest time from Mihaly and because he has posted a video from youtube, he will gain 2 bonus points for the effort!

As you all are seeing I am starting to host some time trials and e-sports events here at CMS! Sometimes, they will be stand alone events just hosted by us and sometimes they will tie into an ongoing larger e-sports contest hosted by a provider. As we do these I want to conduct a Championship. I am planning on it being at least 8 events, with 2 drop events -- so best 6 count. That way if anyone has missed our early contest they will not be penalized.

Points will work really simply and will be tracked here. The points will be distributed from first to last with the winner receiving the same amount of points for the entries. Then down in reverse order. So if we have 15 drivers, then the winner gets 15 and the 15th place driver gets 1, and everyone else the corresponding points in between.

Also for each event hosted, if we get 15 drivers to participate then I will setup a private, and exclusive race for those drivers to participate in on the same car and track with bonus points ...

The first 2 events have been launched

    1. Miata NA (Assetto Corsa) at Donnington - Ends 4/16/2017 -- still time to get in!!!!
    2. This is not your Mothers Miata at Suzuka - Corvette - Race Room Experience Ends April 30th

Come in participate, have fun and enjoy a little different format!!!

    In Sum ...

    8 Events
    2 Drops
15 or more drivers and each time trial gets converted to a bonus race with extra points ...

We will be using a variety of sims. I expect Assetto Corsa, RaceRoom Experience, Automobilsta, rFactor2, and / or iRacing ...

So this will test your versatility as a simracer!
