Default WARNING...about changing the "Garage Detail" settings!

As many of you know, I've recently had problems with warping and skipping. So, I've been making it a mission of mine to work out the bugs and I'm happy to say that I've been very successful. However, I picked up a little tip for the boys over at ERL that has had some interesting and potentially race ending backlash. Here's the tip as it appears in the ERL forum:

FPS drops when driving past the pits
If you have problems with fps when passing the pits and it's full of cars. Change this in your PLR. Looks something this in the PLR
Garage Detail="1.0000" // LOD multiplier when vehicle is in garage (0.01-1.00)
Change the value 1.000 to 0.5 or something even lower. Remember to keep the quotes
I changed my setting to something like 0.0001 and I have apparently over done it. Because when I participated in the Indy fun run I actually ran into an invisible car on pit road. This is likely due to the fact that pit stalls and garages are one and the same at Indy. At SPA, this was a non issue, because when someone is out of their car, the car is stored in the garage and not on pit road.

The lesson learned is if you use this change like I do and over do it, you may or may not see cars in the pit lane if the cars on not store in separate garages. I don't plan to change my settings at this point, but I now know that I need to wait until I reach my pit stall before turning in.

Recently I had this setting at 0.01 and I found that it completely hide the pace car in all sessions. Not a good idea and I've paid the price twice for my mistake. I've done some testing and found that 0.50 is about as low as I'm willing to go although the pace car is visible at settings as low as 0.10. The problem with setting the garage details that low is that the pace car is not invisible until you're almost right on top of it. I've been burned twice...0.50 is what I'm sticking with, although your mileage may vary.

    Good Luck

    Troy:
LOD bias in most modern games and sims to get an average far near view is about 0.31,higher seems to blur distant objects and sharpen the near ones, but too low settings make some nearer object appear way to late or not show.
At least that is what I find when modding for RPGs,like Oblivion,Fallout3 etc.
