rFactor crashing to desktop often 'runtime error'
It seems to be happening more and more, and mostly always in the garage/monitor area when it crashes to the desktop with a 'rFactor has caused a runtime error'. I've read the 4gb fix for win7 64 systems (which I run on) will help, and I could use that patch because I have 4gb of ram and would like to use all of it for rFactor.
I tried to install the patch, I opened the program and selected rfactor.exe but it said it couldn't execute, am I doing something wrong?

Hi Patrick,
Have you checked to make sure you have Admin rights in Win7?

Yes I have admin rights, should I try to run the patch as administrator?

Patrick,
I'm assuming you've downloaded the executable and saved it to somewhere on your PC and then tried double clicking it to run.

Yes, I extracted it to the desktop and I double click to run and all it does is open a windows explorer to select an exe. I pick rfactor.exe and I get this:

K, all I can think of is the file might be corrupt. Might want to try downloading it from a different site and give that a try, if you have anti virus software try closing that to see if that helps
So many things to go wrong eh!!!

Runtime == nasty
Have you checked the event viewer. Usually a runtime error is bad stuff and I would a trap would have been sent.
Another good thing is to use rFactors debugger. You need to start it from the command line, instructions for doing this are in the manaual also in the support folder.
GO:
start > control panel > admin tools > event viewer
the best place to look is in "windows" > Application and the system files.
On the right hand side of the event viewer use the filters to look for "critical" and "errors"
If you do get an event error your should be able to google it and get a good idea of what the cause is. Also look in the rFactor support folder after a crash and before restarting Rfactor.
In the event viewer you will want to look in all sections as the cause could be network, security...
