Default rFactor 2 Beta - First Impressions

    Good News
    - Nice interface
    - Cars and tracks look great
    - Sound is very good.

    Bad News
    - Undriveable framerates when compared to a similarly configured rF setup.
    - Only driveable on the lowest graphics settings, in the native resolution of 1920x1200.
    - Cars have a weird disconnected sensation. Not terrible, just weird. May improve when the tire model is complete.

    Summary
    - Still in beta...so there's plenty of room for improvement. My primary concern is the gawd aweful frame rates.

I am worried about framerates as well since I am just above the min specs.

    What are your specs Troy?

So far, so good for me. One lockup when I tried to use that mini-dash or whatever they call it, but went back to the twin dials and no problem. Have only driven the Megane except for a couple laps with the the F1. Takes some time to get used to the feel of the mod, sort of like it took time to get used to the HistorX, but once you do, you can get a little bolder. You might want to turn the steering ratio down to make the steering a little smoother. Frame rate seems just fine, but have only driven alone so that might be subject to change with more cars on the track.

Absolute maximum settings of what the Beta is able to do:

I am sorry, Beta or not, graphically this is not even a match for F1 1994 LE, HistoriX or Virtua_LMs tracks for rFactor 1. That doesn't even come close to what the GTR2 cars look like and they are from 2004...

So far my frame rates are better that I was expecting. With everything cranked up except shadow blur, I was getting around 30-48 fps on Spa, depending on what part of the track I was on (oh and with sunny weather). I'm backing down on things now like sun, reflections, etc. to try to inch it back up toward 60 fps. This is at my max res of 1680 x 1050.

I have Windows 7 64-bit, AMD Athlon II 2.45 GHz (wimpy I know), 4 GB RAM, ATI 5770 x2 for graphics.

I had the same graphics settings I used for rF1 and was racing at Monaco with 3 to 5 other cars and nary a stutter. 1920x1080 with a 285 GTX.

I was on last night with Dave, Paul and Patrick Spence and around their cars or really anywhere at monaco my system was taxed considerably. FPS with rfactor settings on low for all and shadows off, the dynamic something rather in video settings unchecked with vsync on....was anywhere from high 20's to 60's. On anything higher than low grapics in game setting, it was almost unplayable with the stuttering (not to mention the cars were a handful and I wasn't familiar with the track! ). Dave didn't have any problems with triple screens and a newer ATI 6950.

Rfactor 1 has never really been a problem to get FPS in 100's even at start of races. Just wondering if this is the sort of thing that will get worked out in beta or it's just going to require a faster card when we start using R2. This is all at 5760x1080 res. I dropped down to 1920x1080 and saw a decent gain to 60's mostly, but i was vsync'd!

    system:
    AMD 955 BE@3.9ghz
12 Gig of RAM (overkill, i know...i got it on sale)
XFX 5850 (probably the weak link)
    3 - 23" screens

Ya that is the way to go for sure, I run V-Sync on. (60 refresh rate)
    Don't have the beta yet.

This is some bummer news fellers...

I expect the 5850 is the main prob since dropping the resolution improved fps quite a bit. I have a 5850 as well, but only one screen. FPS are similar for me, not great but expected since I only have a Q6600 cpu, at the bottom of recommended.

The funny thing is that my cpu usage and gpu usage are practically the same in rF and rF2, about 35% cpu and 45% gpu, lol, even though fps is cut in half or so. Only minimal testing so far using high to full settings but no AA or AF. The Meganes look the worst to me, very washed out and cartoony.
