    Default rFactor 2 Beta Content Torrents and Forums are up

    ISI just set up a new rF2 beta forum, and posted torrents for the content that will be included in the beta, to get people to seed them ahead of the beta release.

    Yes, and the beta won't be out until after the first of the year from what it sounds like. This is just the content that will go along with the demo, they released it early since it is a relatively large download, and they wanted seeders for when it goes live.

    What exactly is "seeding"? I mean, without the actualy .exe of the mod what can be done with the content?

    Seeding is when people have files on their home computers and share them with others by torrent programs. Instead of one person downloading from one site, one person downloads from multiple people at the same time. The more seeders, the quicker and more reliably new people can download programs.

    Nothing can be done with the content at the moment, but when the executable is released, people will already have the cars and tracks, making for a much shorter download time for the seeders since they will only need the executable, and the people who wait until everything is in place will have an easier time downloading the components since many people will already have the car and track torrents available.

    This is a clever way of doing things, and it's also a testimony that ISI has a lot of faith in the cooperation of the rF community to download these files now and to cooperate later when the beta comes out.
