After reading the article ay rFactorCentral about installing the new patch (when it's released) onto a fresh install of rFactor, I decided that I would go ahead and fix up a newinstall...clean with only patches installed.
After giving it some thought, I did this:
1. First, I renamed the folder that my current version of rFactor is in, from "ProgramFiles/rFactor" to "ProgramFiles/rFactor1070".
2. I changed the destination and working folder information for the icon on my desktop to point to the new folder name. I also renamed the icon to be "rFactor1070".
My reasons for doing this were to leave the existing install as it is, and accessible to run, while also letting the fresh install have the default folder name.
3. I ran the "rFactorSetup.exe" original download and installed into the default location (ProgramFiles/rFactor). After doing so, I ran the new install and entered in my nam and other information, then exited the program. I copied the 1040 and 1070 patches into the new rFactor folder, and ran each to install the patches to this install, then deleted them.
Now everything is fresh and new, and ready to go!!
Also, no need to do the license stuff because since you didn't do an uninstall, your license information is still in the system on your box! Woohoo!!
Oh yeah, make sure that if you have to tell you anti-virus program to exclude real-time scanning on your rFactor installs, to add the new rfactor1070 version to the list!
Tada!! All done, and ready to roll....just make sure that after you get the patch downloaded that you place it in this new folder before running it...you don't have to, but it makes things easier as the program defaults to the folder the patch file is placed in if it finds rfactor.exe in the same folder.
