Default I wish there were brighter days in rFactor...

    Guys,
Is there any fix out there that can brighten up the tracks? I would love some brighter sunshine... The tracks are just too gloomy; I feel like I'm in a high speed funeral procession.

Hope rFactor 2 deals with this issue.

    Val,

THank you, I thought it was just me I dont know how much of it is rFactor and how much is the track builders. I do know that some tracks are much brighter than others. For instance compare Road America with Mid Ohio. Mid Ohio is much gloomier.

    Thanks Brian for your reply.

I agree that Road America is a happier place. I love the Mid-Ohio track too and it would be great if it were brighter. I know there are "Sun" fixes to F1 2010 and I tried them out. Very nice.

Just found a brightness plugin for rFactor:

    http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail...20HDR%20Plugin

I decided not to use it as it has its own d3d9 file and replaces any other plugin versions you may have installed. Be interested in finding out if anyone is using this.

Not too many ppl use the ENB plugin. Most don't like it that well. Besides brightening, it adds a kind of blur and exaggerated color effect, similar to Shift, Dirt, and some of those console games. I believe it does slow rFactor down some.

Although not ideal, I guess you could brighten your monitor on dark tracks.

I thought there might be a gamma adjustment in rFactor or the track files, but didn't find anything.

Have you made sure your monitor is properly calibrated? One of the adjustments that's usually overlooked is the Gamma, which can be adjusted in either the video card's "control center", or the monitor's controls.

I found this to be the most crucial setting, instead of brightness and contrast. I just recently bought a new Asus 24" LCD, and after a couple of days I just didn't like the picture, it seemed overly "white", almost washed out. So, I went to http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ and ran through the test and the changes made a huge difference, especially in iRacing where the colors are controlled and "muted" a little, I guess to look more realistic which it does. But even my desktop image of a Porsche 918 Hybrid came to life. It really makes a big difference.

    Thanks guys for the tips.

I failed to mention that I use an over-head projector so my set up is a little different. Besides making my driving experience more life-sized (84 X 70 inch projection), my projector will make the game appear lighter than my monitor does and so it helps. But I am still a little disappointed in the lack of "sunshine" in rFactor if you know what I mean. Maybe I am just turning into a persnickety Old Fart...

Fingers crossed RF2 will improve upon this.

Tim, thanks Ill give it a look. I am reluctant to make any "global" adjustments to my monitor, as at the moment I have a nice pretty close match between Adobe/monitor/printer. I would much rather have an aproach that effects the game only.

Sort of shamefull that 1st person shooters have been offering in game gamma settings for years but modern racing sim do not bother.

Tim, in my experience, when you buy a monitor the contrast and brightness are usually maxxed out. I guess they think that will make their product stand out in a display of many monitors in the store but clearly it's not what people need in their daily experience.

Val, I agree about the gloomy tracks. It doesn't need to be cartoonish, but it shouldn't look like twilight either. And the grey brake markers at Autopolis are just TERRIBLE.

Val, I don't have a problem with you shipping me your projector so I can test it out for myself. Please note that it may take the entire season for me to come to a conclusion though.

Yes Paul those markers are some of the most difficult to see for sure. I think it should be international law that all brake markers be either some bizzare neon color or 4'x2' in size
