Default Help with FFB - rF vs. GTR2/EVO

This post is not meant to start any "better than" debates, it is simply an inquiry as to how I can improve upon FFB in rF.

I have been playing rF for a long time now but for giggles I decided to go run laps in some of the other sims I have, specifically GTR2 and Evo. I was immediately struck by how much more "informative" the FFB is in GTR2. Push too hard on a turn and you feel the steering force drop off dramatically as well as tyre skip. In rF all I feel is the steering force drop, nothing else... and the drop is not very pronounced.

I use RealFeel and LeoFFB and have comfigured them as advised by the various readmes.

    The questions that arise....

Is the FFB in GTR2 exaggerated and it's not really like that or it is spot on?
Is the FFB in rF a little muted and can it be improved upon or it is spot on?

Everything else in rF is fine except that I just don't feel my connection to the track as well as I do in GTR2. Kerbs, cracks, bumps, transitional loading all are great in rF, it just seems to lack that feeling of "how the rubber meets the road".

    Advice appreciated.

The overall FFB setting in rfactor can be increased or decreased in the controller settings.
There is also the fact that some mods change track surface grip etc and some change the car[s] physics files.
But the FB should be ok depending a lot on the make and type of controller you use, but only with the cars and tracks that come with the generic ISI rfactor.
But I don`t use GTR2 so I could be way off here.

Be assured that this is not a matter of, "oh, move a slider to max". If it were that simple I would not be so frustrated. I am getting to the point of believing it is a matter of mod (suspension or tyres) and/or track surface modelling or a combination of the two.

Take FSOne 2009... there are times in a fairly tight medium speed turn that the "feeling" is there. In WCORR, its even more obvious. I am going to load up the ILMS mod that this forum is familiar with (most likely) and see what happens.

rFactor force feedback is all "simulated" and is poorly modeled. To get the best FFB use the "realfeel" plugin in concert with Leo's plugin and turn rFactor FFB effects to low and the slider to around 40%. There is a thread here in the forums that explains it all.

Realfeel uses the cars actual steering geometry and the track surface to generate a "force" that is fed back into the wheel. If you get it right it opens a new world of sensation that works like a champ.

Leo's plug in actually simulates the feedback generated from the tire model. It takes the tire slip model and generates forces that are added to or subtracted from the real feel forces to provide a very realistic feedback.

The car's suspension geometry is read as to "front steer / rear steer",arm length, spring rate, damper stiffness, etc. So each car reacts differently based on real world criteria. (assuming the model uses real world suspension)

The key is to turn DOWN the rFactor ffb so that the real ffb can be felt.

    Hope this helps.

That's kind of the problem, Mike. I came here looking and have not had any luck on search terms... so I asked. Still looking for the thread you mention.

Edit: Found it and I have been using that methodology all along. Its the lack of "scrub and chatter" that I feel in GTR2 that I miss in rF. I am coming to the conclusion that I cannot have that "feel". Also, more Leo and less RealFeel seems to be the ticket because the lower RealFeel mix is, the more slip I feel in the wheel.

Here is the "Real Feel settings for those that use it" thread that I think Mike is talking about:Real Feel settings for those that use it

What are you using for RealFeel mix? I have it set to 60, but I haven't found much difference. Coming from RBR where the feel of front tires losing traction is very high, I can barely feel the fronts going out on me in the Grand Am mod, using the RealFeel.ini it shipped with, and a mix of 60.

Right now I use the tire noise more than anything to feel this.

Not all models are designed to accommodate real feel and Leo's. Only mods built within the last couple of years (and only those with "real" suspension geometry) will give good feedback. I don't think Grand Am has the necessary design to be effective with real feel. Too bad actually cause they are a blast to drive.
