I just gave them a try but it is a FPS hog and runs in slow motion for me.
They sure feel like a heavy bunch of beasts, and it just felt wrong to use paddle shifters with something from this era.
What can I say...they're just wickedly fun to drive.
Yes, there are a few issues, mostly graphical, but these cars are really very fun to drive. That is if you like old heavy metal, with tons of power, tiny little tires, and just a hint of brakes.
My dad had a 1969 Chevy Chevelle with a race ready small block 283 and this mod reminds me a lot of that car. Heavy as hell, but plenty of power so that would allow you to power slide the car...right up until you reached the point where the rear tires gave up and it tried to kill you with the ole tank slapper.
For me, this mod really brought back some memories and it also reminded me that driving a car is more than just turning a wheel and planting your foot in the firewall. These older cars really require you to "dance" on the pedals and if you have a clutch/H-Pattern shifter like myself, it really adds to the immersion factor. A judicial use of power, a touch of brake, and gentle use of steering input are what is required to make these beasts go fast. Carry too much speed into a corner and you'll push like a dump truck, but once you get the front end set, you can really power through the apex. Not drifting mind you, but just the slightest amount of tail out and you're going fast!
Don't get me wrong...this mod is far from HOF ready, but it is a very good start and very race ready IMHO. I would lobby to consider this mod for a potential CM Fun Series in the future.
I've been testing at Mid-America and I'm right around 1:55's with some setup adjustments in the Ford. I'll post my setup later.
Also...if you think you "Might" have FPS issues, install the low rez version!
Cheers,
Troy
I enjoy this mod as well. As Troy stated it takes a soft touch with feathering gas and brk. Clutch and manual shifter make it much more fun. It reminds me a bit of the rfactor historic gt ledgends mod. Another great mod. I think it would be a good choice for a fun series as well.
