Default 79 F1 Mod Handling Question

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the F1 Cars in the 79 Mod are especially hard to make turn with the default setups? They seem "tight" to me or with understeer as some would say. Just wandering if it's me or if you guys have noticed this as well and what you have adjusted to make it better ... other than that if I could just get them to turn a little better I'd say they feel perfect.

for what it's worth I am driving the Lotus. This was one of the cars that did not come with a Huttu setup for Kyalami. So I started from the base setup ... I have managed to make the steering tightness issue somewhat better by taking the steering lock up from the default of 17 to 25 degrees, and I also increased brake pressure from 90 to 98 percent. I am lapping around 1:13.5xx.

Would be interested in knowing more about what you guys are finding, what car you are driving and if you've had similar observation on the steering to mine.

Hey Dave..I have by no means mastered these things, but here's what I can tell you.
From the default setup...I turn the steering lock way up...take the front sway bar down a notch or two...put in 25 laps of fuel...make sure I have ONLY enough front and rear wing to keep the car from sliding sideways in the turns after the tires have warmed up...just enough spring to keep it from bottoming out...and adjust gears for the track.
I also turn the Power setting on the Diff down to the point where I can stand on the gas coming out of the turns w/o going sideways.
I usually can make all these adjustments in just a short amount of time.
    Next..to get steering!
High speed turns ..more front wing.
Low to medium speed turns..softer sway bar.
These adjustments should get you to the point where you can "turn in" fairly good and really nail the gas coming out...after your tires are heated.
After all that...work on caster and camber to get even tire wear...these will be your fine tune adjustments.

Here is a list of the cars in order of rank.

    1-Williams FW07
    2-Ferrari 312 T4
    3-Ligier JS11
    4-Brabham BT49
    5-Renault RS11
    6-Renault RS12
    7-Lotus79
    8-Brabham BT48
    9-Tyrrell 009
    10-Mclaren M29
    11-Lotus 80
    12-Wolf
    13-Ferrari 312 T3
    14-Rebaque
    15-Arrows A2
    16-Mclaren M28
    17-Arrows A1
    18-Ensign N179
    19-Fittipaldi F6A
    20-Shadow DN9
    21 -ATS D2
    22-Williams FW06
    23-Ensign N177
    24-Merzario

I have been driving the Shadow quite a bit and really like the way it feels.
My best time at Kyalami is 1:14.300
As you can see the Shadow is ranked number 20 on the list so it's going to get spanked at the long tracks but should be a little more competitive at the shorter street tracks.

What I'm really hoping is that if we run this mod..All the faster guys...or guys w/ more practice time on there hands choose the slower cars from 12 down...and the guys w/ no time to practice or newer to simracing can choose whatever they like.
I think a great way to run this series would be...everyone chooses a car(different than each other) and keeps it for the season.
We run the season w/ the correct tracks in the correct order
and we have 25 drivers(correct amount for the '79 series) that will make each and every race.

Bob thanks that will be very useful. I am running the Lotus (I think it's the 79, how do I tell?) ... It's the green one that Mario Andretti's teammate uses.

I would love that if we could get a Classics Series going here with 25 drivers all running a different car. How cool would that be? Maybe we should start drumming up some interest from guys. When would you guys want to start it. After the GT Legends Schedule finishes? What's everyone think?

    They're all '79's
If you run the "Historic" version it gives you the correct models and everything.
I think if the "vote"(Lupo or 79) ends on '79 mod then we should advertise it at VOR and we will certainly pick up enough guys.
'79's on Tuesdays and GTL on Thursdays.
But if we don't act fast all the interested parties at VOR will probably find other places to run the '79 mod.
