Default CMS "Super" Rally Series - General Regulations

CMS “Super” Rally Series - 2012

    Series Commissioners:
    Steven Spears – spspears
    Aaron DeMarre - smokee

    General Regulations

Purpose: The CMS “Super” Rally Series is an informal championship run on the Public Sessions of the Rallyesim, using the RSRBR mod for Richard Burns Rally. It is intended as a fun series and is scored using a Time Adjustment system that rewards improvement and consistency over outright speed. Detailed information on the adjustment system is given below.

Series Registration: This is a “show and go” series, and no advance registration is required. To be scored in any event, simply choose a car from one of the eligible classes and enter the session using the password provided on the CMS Rally forums.

Classes: Two classes will be scored in CMS Super Rally Series events. These are Super 1600 (packs A6K-1, A6K-2, and A6K-3) and Super 2000 (packs N4S-1 and N4S-2). Though you may choose cars from any pack to compete in the Public Session, only these two classes will be scored.

Time Adjustment Procedure: Time Adjustments for each driver will be based on the percentage of total time behind the class leader in each rally. In a driver's first rally in class, he will be assigned an Adjustment Factor of zero, meaning his total time will not be adjusted. Starting with his second rally, each driver will receive an Adjustment Factor based on a percentage of how far off the winner's time they were. The amount of the driver's Time Adjustment will be the equal to the current Adjustment Factor multiplied by a Bonus Factor. We will begin the season with a Bonus Factor of 0.65. However, the Bonus Factor may be adjusted by the Commissioners as necessary to ensure close competition.

Example: The winner of your class in rally 1 finished in 30:00.00 and you finished in 35:00.00. So, you were (1 - 30/35)*100 = 14.2% slower than the winner. Your Adjustment Factor is 14.2% In the next rally, you would be assigned a Time Adjustment of 0.65 * 14.2% = 9.2% of the class winner's time. This Time Adjustment is subtracted from your time to calculate the final standings.

So, on to rally 2, and again, the winner finishes in 30:00.00, but you finish in 32:30.00. Your Time Adjustment is 9.2% of the winning time -- 30*0.092 = 2.76 mins = 2 min 46 sec. and your Adjusted Time is 32:30 - 2:46 = 29:44. So, if the winner from rally 1 (who has an Adjustment Factor of 0) also won rally 2, you would finish ahead of him on Adjusted Time. Essentially, you improved significantly and he didn't, so you got a better result.

For the next rally, your Adjustment Factor would be recalculated based on your results so far. The new Adjustment Factor would be the average of the Adjustment Factors for the two previous rallies. So, you were 14.2% slower than the class winner in Rally 1 and (1-30/32.5)*100=7.7% slower in Rally 2. The new Adjustment Factor is (14.2+7.7)/2 = 11.0% and your new Time Adjustment is 0.65 * 11.0% = 7.2% of the class winning time.

So, in rally 3, the winner (the same fast 0 Adjustment Factor guy) finishes at 25:00 and you finish in 27:30. His Adjusted Time is 25:00. Your Time Adjustment is: 0.072*25 = 1.80 mins = 1 min 48 sec. Your Adjusted Time is 27:30 - 1:48 = 25:42. So, in this case you finish 42 sec down.

The process of re-calculating Adjustment Factors continues as above after every event you complete.

    Notes:
    1) If you DNF in any rally, your time gap for that rally is based on the worst finisher in your class. Your new Adjustment Factor will be calculated based on this gap.
    2) No driver may receive an Adjustment Factor of more than 20% on any rally. Drivers who finish more than 20% off the winning time (including DNFs) will receive an Adjustment Factor of 20%
    3) Any driver who enters the series (or enters a new class) will have an initial Adjustment Factor of 0, so if you join late, you compete on scratch times in your first rally and then get a calculated Adjustment Factor from then on.

    Series Points:

Points will be awarded based on Adjusted Time in each class as follows:

    1st Place: 20 points
    2nd Place: 15 points
    3rd Place: 12 points
    4th Place: 10 points
    5th Place: 8 points
    6th Place: 6 points
    7th Place: 4 points
    8th Place: 2 points
All others (including DNF): 1 point

It is anticipated that the 2012 series will consist of approximately 20 events. When calculating the final season standings, the three lowest points totals for each driver will be dropped.

    Car and Class Changes:

Drivers may change cars and class at will. Any points accumulated and any class Adjustment Factor will be retained. As stated in the Time Adjustment Procedure above, a driver will receive an Adjustment Factor of zero in his first event in a class.

    Rallymasters:

A volunteer Rallymaster will be responsible for setting and conducting each rally in this series. A call for volunteers will be made at least two weeks before each rally. Rallymasters will be allowed free and unlimited practice on the stages they choose for their event, and will be awarded 2 points in addition to any they earn during the rally.

If more than one person volunteers for any event, the one with the least rallymaster points will be selected as rallymaster. In the event of a tie, a rallymaster will be chosen at random from the pool of candidates. Selection of Rallymasters will be the responsibility of the Series Commissioners.

    Rally Conduct:

Each rally will be set by the Rallymaster, who will be solely responsible for its content. This will include choosing special stages, weather, time of day, location of service parks, etc.

Stages may be chosen from any available on RSRBR, including BTB stages.

Damage may be set to Reduced or Realistic at the discretion of the Rallymaster.

Rally Type may be Championship (cumulative damage, loops between service parks) or Standard (no cumulative damage, service after each stage) at the discretion of the Rallymaster.

The number of stages is at the discretion of the Rallymaster, however, the target running time of the rally should be 1 hour, including reasonable breaks between stages.

Rallies will take place over one day, but may contain multiple loops.

Roadbooks will not be made available in advance. Passwords for the appropriate RSRBR Public Session will be posted just prior to the start of the rally. Details will be given in the Supplemental Regulations for each event, which will be posted in the Rally section of the CMS forums.

With the exception of the Rallymaster, no practice is permitted.

Day and time of Public Sessions will be announced in the Supplemental Regulations for each event. Multiple Public Sessions may be set in order to accommodate drivers in different time zones. Drivers may participate in as many sessions as they like, but only the first session will count for points. Under no circumstance may drivers who take part in a later session enter an earlier session and then leave with the sole purpose of learning the contents of the roadbook. Penalty for violating this rule will be DNF for the event.

    Final Word:

This is a fun series with adjustments to give drivers of every level a chance to be competitive. Please be fair by respecting the “blind” roadbooks and be sportsmanlike on and off the stages. Abusive behavior toward anyone will not be tolerated and may result in penalties up to and including being forced to drive a Citröen 2CV for the remainder of the season.

Because we are using combinations of cars and stages that have not been tested, problems may surface. Some stages may be undrivable for some users due to low framerates, and crashes (of the computer kind) may occur. Please keep this in mind and try to have fun even when things go terribly wrong.
