    Default Club DZAMA Sport

Jumping in early while the kids are snoozing. This rally is really the true start of my season, since my goal this year is A6k championships in Madagascar and Hungary. And to be honest I see it as the first "proper" rally of the year being long, loose surface, and having 4WD and 2WD classifications.

    Leg 1

Pretty excited to be back in a car I am comfortable in. Loop 1 I took gravel intermediates, which worked out fine. However I did make some pretty big mistakes on loop one, mostly overshooting the 90 degree corners in a big way. No damage so press on!

Loop 2 I felt great, really good rhythm, and few mistakes. Sikakama is so freaking epic no matter the surface, I love this stage.

    Leg 2

Took gravel intermediates again on loop 1, worked for me. Pretty steady thru here, I could have gone faster but the penalties for crashing out here are big. Just kept a good rhythm going.

I didn't really know what to take for tires this loop, but ultimately 21km of dry followed by 4km of bad conditions made me choose dry gravel tires. Tanner is short, slow and technical, so where I would err on the side of safety I just decided to chance that stage with dry tires. Seemed to work fine, I really don't know if another tire would have been better. Sipir is a stage I always struggle with, but the first run thru was one of my cleanest. The run back thru I was really getting tired and I made some mistakes, lucky for me they were in sections where there were no trees to kill my rally.

Finished fairly clean, even if I was getting slower just due to running so many stages back to back and getting some brain fade.

One leg left, hoping it goes as well at the other two.

First leg of the rally done and once again I was driving the Evo. Most of the rally was uneventful but I managed to had few offs when I arrived into corners too fast and drifted wide. No damage from those excursions though.

As for the tires I used inter gravel tires on all the stages.

Leg 2 and 3 done. No major dramas but I did managed to have few incidents.

    Leg 2
I used dry gravel tires on all the stages of this leg.
    SS9 - Cote d'Arbroz - Gravel Mod - Covered 'damp' - 03:07.79
    SS10 - Cote d'Arbroz II - Gravel Mod - Covered 'damp' - 03:05.08

I had a slight incident in the downhill part in one of the hairpins. Coming over the crest my driving line was way off and the right side wheels were on the grass. I tried to make it to the hairpin but couldn't get the car to rotate and hit the railing. Had to reverse before I could get continue.
    SS11 - Joux Verte - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 05:57.49
    SS12 - Joux Verte II - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 05:51.15

    SS13 - Sipirkakim - Normal Mod - 05:10.61

The car was very nervous on this stage even though I was using the same setup as on previous stage. It was really tail happy and I had to be very careful with my driving. Also I managed to spin in the forest section.
    SS14 - Sipirkakim II - Normal Mod - 05:27.01
I made a few setup tweaks which seemed to work at first but when I got out of the forest the car was once again nervous. I had a few offs when I arrived into corners too fast. No damage though.
    SS15 - Tanner - Normal Mod - 03:17.35
    SS16 - Tanner II - Normal Mod - Bad conditions - 03:33.61

With dry gravel tires it was very slippy but it was manageable. I tried to keep it clean and let AWD do the work out of the corners.

    Leg 3
First loop with dry gravel tires, the second loop with wet gravel tires.
    SS17 - NewBobs - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 05:32.63
    SS18 - NewBobs II - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 05:34.46
    SS19 - East-West - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 06:28.70
    SS20 - East-West II - Gravel Mod - Cloudy 'dry' - 06:36.30

    SS21 - Fraizer Wells - Normal Mod - 02:10.61
    SS22 - Fraizer Wells II - Normal Mod - 02:18.21

I was cautious on this stage and also I had a high speed off late into the stage when I overestimated the grip in a corner. Managed to get back to the road without major trouble.
    SS23 - Diamond Creek - Normal Mod - Bad conditions - 03:20.82
    SS24 - Diamond Creek II - Normal Mod - Bad conditions - 03:20.84

Results are in the box but only a few have done all the three legs of the rally.

Doh! That really sucks Troy. Some people at RD were having that issue last year, and were speculating it has something to do with sound issues. I don't have more info tho. Did you get a restart code? I forget what the rules are for that.

Thanks for the update Tõnu, still looks like not too many people have run yet, less than 100 so far.

No restart code. That's ok though, it's only sim racing, so I'm "Simulating" a blown valve for that stage.

    Troy Dalton
    Class: N1
    Car: Skoda Fabia 1.4

    Leg II

    SS
    9 Cote d'Arbroz - 03:55.61
    10 Cote d'Arbroz II - 03:27.94
    11 Joux Verte - 07:10.48
    12 Joux Verte II - 06:45.53
    13 Sipirkakim - 06:05.01
    14 Sipirkakim II - 05:50.43
    15 Tanner - 03:31.97
    16 Tanner II - 03:55.85

I was still smarting from the "Blown valve" in stage 7, but it's a long rally and I was hoping to make up some ground over the next eight stages. No mistakes, a couple close calls, but I was very much in control and I felt like I finished the leg with relatively respectable times. It's not like I'm going to challenge for the class win, but I'm hoping to stay in the top 20, maybe even the top 10. Only about ten N1 class drivers have finished Leg 1, so it's impossible to gauge where I stand, but I know I did make up some ground on few drivers who did complete leg 2. So, that's encouraging.

This has been a very fun rally. I'm relatively familiar with some of the stages, not all, but there has been a nice flow through the first 16 stages. I really enjoyed leg one, with all the high speed gravel sections in Finland. Really felt like I was pushing the car and going flat out...which isn't hard to do in the under powered Fabia 1.4. Baby steps.

This is my near disastrous off in stage seven. I got lucky and barely damaged the car. So far (knock on wood), this has been my only off of the rally.

Looked like you might could have saved it Troy but, and although I cant tell, you probably have the brakes on and that usually doesnt end well.

I jumped in this for fun because this is a relatively slow week for me for a change. More seat time in the S2000 Fabia.

Had a fantastic battle with my stablemate Tonu. What else was interesting were my stage results. On the doubles, I ran the stages forward and backwards within a second.

    SS1 Hardwood 3:47
    SS2 HardwoodII 3:48
    SS3 Sheps 2:48
    SS4 ShepsII 2:48

Inters again and off to Finland
    SS5 Kaihu 4:13
SS6 Siki 5:52 Only real burp. Overshot a corner.
    SS7 Musta 5:26 Getting tired
    SS8 MustaII 5:26

No updates because I am behind, however check the battle. After 8 long stages.... less than 3 seconds.
