    Protest 1:

    Protest Upheld

    - NQ to Brette Brooks, for avoidable incident - improper blocking attempt, timestamp 13:41.

    Stewards Comments:

Brooks attempted to block Uyan’s pass attempt, not by setting up and holding an inside line going into the corner, but by turning sharply down into Uyan earlier than he normally turned in.
    The incident happened on L-10:
L-6 Brooks stays tight to left side of track, turns in at spectator group.
L-7 Brooks stays tight to left side of track, turns in at spectator group.
L-8 Brooks stays tight to left side, turns in earlier at trees before spectator group.
L-9 Brooks stays tight to left side, turns in even earlier at course worker’s booth before trees.

L-10 Brooks is on left side of track, turns sharply in even earlier at the 100m sign before the booth. Brooks could see Uyan disappear in his rearview at the 200m sign and knew he might make a pass attempt.

Brooks turned in so early and so sharply that he was set up to miss the corner on the inside (13:41, cockpit and behind car views). He jerked the wheel left (away from Uyan to his inside) to get aimed to the apex about the same time their cars came together.

L-11 & L-12 Brooks went back to his normal line of staying tight to the left side and turning in at the spectator group (just like laps 6 & 7).

On laps 8-10 Uyan was getting closer each lap. Brooks kept turning in a little earlier each time; one assumes in an effort to discourage Uyan from attempting a pass. Brooks had every right to take a blocking line in the braking zone by running in the middle or inside of the track. Instead he attempted to block by turning down into Uyan more sharply and earlier than he normally turned into the corner.

    Penalties Summary:

    - B. Brooks NQ
