    RACE STORY

Well, since I am sitting here and the race is still going on, I might as well start the thread.

Bob D, where the heck did you get that speed in qualifying!!! Man that was a smokin' lap. Congrats.

I spent half the qual time trying to adjust my setup to gain a second (my PB was a 1:09.8) and this screwed me up and Gunny slipped into P2 on the grid.

Well, the lights went green and I managed to get by Gunny but I couldn't get by Bob. I chased him for 5 laps. Then at the end of lap 5, we caught the tail end of the field. I was able to gain my almost 2 second deficiet back because Bob got held up. Then on lap 6 I managed to get a better run out of T1, draft him up to the keyhole and out brake him on the inside.

Bob was on my butt for the next 5 laps. Until I came up on P Brown in a P2 passing a GT2 car. I spun and that let Bob and Gunny by.

I chased them down again and Bob pitted earlier than I did. When it came time for my pit, I got the car hauled down to the limit but I hit the pit limiter twice and then hit the gas. When I hit 88 MPH I realized my mistake.

I got a drive through, but I didn't know it was a drive through. I was expecting a stop and go so I fiddled with the pit menu for the next lap trying to get the stupid thing to only do the penalty. Well, then things went from bad to worse. I was still fiddling as I tried to pull into the pits and I spun on the grass and smacked the back end and didn't get the stupid thing hauled down to the limit. This time they gave me a stop and go and my pit menu worked like I expected.

I now had damage and two extra unnecessary stops.

I came out in 5 or 6th and made my way back up to 4th. I had managed to stay in front of Gunny so I didn't get lapped and then Bob went back into the pits and just as I was unlapping myself from him, my car died on the front straight.

I had been using boost of 5 to catch up, and I was monitoring the engine temp. I can only assume that the smack on the rear end damaged my engine and then the extra boost was the final straw.

Man what a disappointment. I am pretty sure I would have stayed in front of Gunny if I hadn't had that first fumble with the pit speed limiter. Oh well, there would have been something else, I'm sure.

I just heard that the race is over.

Congrats Gunny - lapped the entire field!!! Excellent run.

    Man! what an awesome race!
    Virginia Motorsports!

I got a good Q lap in for the pole and Gunny was right beside me!
Greg was right on our heels
I led for awhile and then Greg slipped by me for awhile and then I got back by and led for most of the rest of the race w/ my teamie Gunny right behind me and then....I wrecked! I don't know why I just whacked the wall and then got a stop and go!
But!..I still finished 2nd so I'm very happy about that!
Great Fun,can't wait for next week!
    Congrats Gunny! Great Win!

I'm just about to look at the replay but I thought I'd better post first...I reserve the right to edit my post later though

Did just 2 real Q laps and started 13th I think. I was gently reminded after the practice race to GO when the green lights. This race went just like the practice race except this time i went right on the green...then had to lift...then got on it again...then ran into the guy in front of me. I really don't know what the answer is for this and would not want the job of administering this stuff, I will accept any penalties without complaints.
The guy I hit was Tony B. and that knocked him aside some, I wanted to give him the spot back right away but thought doing that would cause a bottle neck and did not get a good chance to do it soon, so Tony, sorry.
Last week there were cars going everywhere in the esses on the first lap, I mean through walls and each other, lag city...and just like last week I got turned around because of it. Last week I ended up last after that but this week not quite last.
Lots of memory blur remembering everything in the first few laps of a race. I ended up having a real good run with Terry McN, because of my car damage every time I would get a run to pass I would have to back off because my car was pushing like a dump truck. Terry eventually pulled over and lifted on a straight to let me go. Terry, I was having fun, don't ever think you have to give me a spot, it's racing man
I am a firm believer in a few multi-class racing thoughts, 2 of them being if you are in a higher class of car, the first pass you make on a lower class of car driver is the most important one because if you are not a jerk about it then whenever you 2 meet up again that's how that driver will treat you. Second, the passes you make are not as important as the passes you abort.
As for the rest of the race I may have been the only front runner to do only 1stop, I was on mediums and my tires and fuel JUST made 46-47 minutes.
Around the 1 hour point I came up on Claro and realised I could run with him even with my damage, no doubt he was damaged worse. We worked our way through traffic and I aborted some passing opportunities until I got a run on him as he was passing a slower car. I'm not a guy to bluff much and I think he knows that so when he saw I was going to go for the pass he lifted just enough to let me by.
The last part of the race was taken up with me noticing quite a few guys pitting again leaving me to try to keep my mind on holding on till the end without a brain fart...well, had lots of brain farts but none big enough to kill my race.
I won my class...I went "huh?" Coooool
Congrats to the other winners and also to EVERYONE ELSE, I think we all did a great job!

I must mention that Rob Lowe was kind enough to give me a couple of his controllers allowing me to have pedals that functioned as more than on/off switches, THANKS AGAIN. By the way, Rob seems like a great guy and I felt bad every time he chatted that he was pitting, obviously having problems.

    Bob

p.s., Also BIG thanks to the mod makers and the administrators for allowing us to participate in this great series

    PetroMALT Racing
    On the road from Mid-Ohio

"PetroMALT Racing gives a poor show in Mid-Ohio"

The #74 PetroMALT Porsche started in the back and stayed there. "We got a good start and avoided everyone and everything for the early part of the race. Raced abit bit with JimS, ahead, behind, slinky-like, now close, now far... A couple of offs and scares as the big boys would flash by. I misjudged one time and edged an LMP to the outside barrier on the nasty blind left-hander - sorry, thought you'd dive to the inside. Later in the race I come over that same corner and found Larry Hansen sideways in the road and T-boned him, getting popped myself by an LMP. That really made the car a joy to drive, so I putted along, trying to keep out of the way. Ended up as the last car running."

    Bad night for the #52......
Everything was great with the new CPU engine up and running until I tried to do quick log out to find out where my dad was and then the 1255 stripped I was using, locked up upon hitting the "Join" button. So bad I had to turn off all power...Then refused to initialize at all....Alas got a DNS.....bummer, my team had a decent setup from last night. Felt I could do well, and was positive I'd have no fps issues....

    Well, that was fun.
Until about 5 this afternoon, I didn't have much seat time, and I had no setup Idea what so ever.
I tweaked the default a little, but obviously a lot of P2 guys are way ahead of me in this respect. I felt comfortable in the car, but my times were not competitive at all.
Thats ok I thought, some hot shoes will flare up and fizzle and if I keep my nose clean I should do ok. Learn as you go.

I spent most of the race alone, save for passing lower class cars and getting passed by mostly LMP1's, I didn't see much action race wise.

Bob, I let you go because I thought I was maybe holding you up. I thought you were just being kind...lol I knew you had run much faster earlier didn't know you had damage. I figured we were hitting traffic just right to screw you, so I thought I would roll over. The rate at which you left me in the dust seemed to suggest I did the right thing. Anyway, we are "endurance teammates" even if we don't sit down and talk...( "do we need counseling?")
(Bob).." He never talks to me about his day"
(Terry), "He just doesn't understand the strain I'm under"
Maybe Dr. Phil could help us!

Anyway, you did good lad. While I seemed to find myself mired in Petro Malt.
Henry and I had a couple run ins, both times they were "wrong place, right time" deals, but they caused me damage, extensive the second time, and after looking at my car in the replay, I now see why I couldn't get it to go to well the last half of the race. The whole left front fender tip was gone...just a big nasty hole there...I thought I felt a draft in my suit, thought the fly was open....
Sorry Henry, the first time I didn't even see you coming across the track until it was far too late, the second was when you got caught up in Larry's wreck, and I came over the blind crest with Tom C. He got by, I creamed you.
I am seeing a pattern to my races. I am either using very bad judgment or just have bad luck...or maybe a bit of both.

Bob, I would love to know how you got that fuel milage going that fast......We need to chat...screw Phil.

Congrats to all the Winners and Podium.
Blind Squirrels need love too Gunny.

    Ahhh, Terry,

It was you both times... Sorry! It's hard to remember how MUCH faster the LMPs are out of a corner, I though I had enough space to move outside to let you to the inside, but you were already there...

    Terry,

Just apply a heaping hand full of Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter, let clump and then remove. Also, best results are obtained if you use 'fresh' Swheat Scoop to get optimal clumping action. < VBG >
