    Kevin Cinnamon Wins MoSport Overall,
    McLean Continues to Dominate GT2

This week, the Champion Motorsports GT Challenge Series visited the Great White North, taking on of the most challenging circuits on this season's schedule, Mosport International Raceway.

Throughout the week, drivers had been spending all their time getting re-acquainted with the ILMS Series cars after rules modifications were put in place after Road America that had some teams scratching their heads, wondering what they would need to do to put their setups back into place. Times posted ranged significantly, but two things were certain....not everyone was showing their hand, and speed without control didn't matter at a place like Mosport.

In qualifying, it was the usual suspects placing their cars on the front row, except this time it was Don Fryman who edged out Bob Dunlop for the pole. Starting behind them was Stephen King in third, with Robert Harrison in fourth.

In the GT2 class, Drew McLean continued to dominate the lap chart, turning in speeds that put his Porsche in the middle of the GT1 field. Scott Bennett would qualify second in the GT2 class and Wes Tribble third. Wes' evening came to a quick end during the formation lap when an issue with the steering linkage on his Ferrari would force him to retire from the race.

As the lights go out, the chase begins!!!

As the lights went out to start the race, focus was on making it through the first few turns in tact, and then getting through the famous Moss Corner. For the most part, everyone made it through without any problems, however that would end quickly as several cars had problems with the long sweeping turns that lead back to the front stretch, and many cars had to find pit road early for repairs.

On Lap 5, Bob Dunlop and Stephen King were involved in an accident which would retire them both from the race in spectacular fashion and Don Fryman would inherit the lead for a short time until he too was involved in an on track incident. Tony Boynton would led for a time until Kevin Cinnamon would take the lead, and eventually the win.

Don Fryman would finish in second overall after suffering damage early

The racing throughout the field was quite intense, with the narrow bends and blind curves, every lap was an adventure, and the state of the cars at the end of the race was testament to the nature of the night's event. Don Fryman, who had suffered damage early on, would fight his way back for a second place finish overall, with Boynton finishing in third overall.

Drew McLean would not only run off from the rest of the GT2 field, but near the end of the race found himself in 3rd place overall until being passed by Boynton with 1 lap to go. McLean would easily win the GT2 class, with Scott Bennett finishing in second place, and Larry Ford, in his return to racing from an all too long hiatus, took the final podium spot in GT2.

Tony Boynton in the Saleen battles with Drew McLean for the final overall podium spot.
Larry Ford in the Ferrari finished third in class in his first race.

The series will take a week off for the Sebring Endurance Race scheduled for next Saturday, May 31st, with a practice event scheduled on the 29th. The 4-Class series race at MoSport will be run on June 5th, picking up where we left off at Road America.
