Today, quite by accident, I came across another iRacing member who had downloaded my paint scheme and re-uploaded it too tradingpaints.com as his own. Not a big deal really, but I spent hours painting that car and it only takes a minute to ask permission. I was really put off by the fact that this guy couldn't be bothered to ask me first and the fact that he didn't even bother to take my name off the car was just plain lazy. I was honored that the guy liked my work enough to use it, but I also thought it was incredibly rude to just use it without permission.
I know that someone is going to consider this petty, but I contacted Steve at tradingpaints.com and asked him to remove the file, which he did. Of course, that doesn't prevent the guy from re-uploading it, nor are there any features in place to help creators protect their original work. In my correspondence with Steve, I proposed a couple of options that might alleviate this in the future, only time will tell if they get implemented. In the mean time, I've removed all my paint scheme's from tradingpaint.com, because I am reluctant to share my work there until they put some measures in place to at least discourage this kind of behavior.
Until that happens, I'll provide a direct link to my paint scheme's for everyone to download. I know it's not as covenient as tradingpaints.com, so don't feel any obligation to download them. However, if you do, just please don't re-upload them to tradingpaints.com.
