I ran few laps at Homestead (open practice sessions) with default advanced setup and few laps at Road America (off server session)…
On oval side, I think it's much better than old tire model. I'm glad that you cannot "draft" at corners like many people do that. I like that they added 3 sections of thread wears instead of single section. I noticed that you have to take easy on turns – not pushing it too much or you’ll end up spinout or pushing up into the wall.
I found running on road course more stability on turns and it felt more realistic braking.
That’s something I will have to get used with it.
I haven't run much oval in over a year so I fired up the '09 with old tire model on the 21st to get a feel for it so I could compare the new.
Oval: I definitely feel more feedback and I have the impression it is "better", but not a drastic difference. As I run more perhaps it will become more of a change/improvement.
Road (Road America): I found the new car surprisingly fun to drive on a road course besides having to brake about 3 times earlier than a Mustang. I can't say I felt as attached to the road as I would driving my car in the real world, but didn't really expect to. It felt pretty good and was fun.
I suspect it will be a subtle thing that takes quite a few laps to "sink in". I was never one to drift through turns to be faster (always slowed me down or caused me to lose it) so perhaps it may make more of a difference to others.
I practiced some today and ran an official race at Road America with the NTM and it was a blast. I love it --- the car feels exactly like I would expect it to feel and I am very impressed so far ... - David
