Here we go! 2009 Season 3! It should be another action packed season. Our first race will be at Daytona. The first thing I normally do to get re-accustomed to a track is watch someone really fast drive it. Shawn Purdy is nice enough to upload videos of his fastest laps and let us mere mortals see the fastest braking points and lines. Here's Daytona RC:

It's important to remember that updates to the physics can change the way you have to approach corners and how you drive but in general that video is a good example on how to drive this course.

As far as a setup I am going to be basing mine off of this one posted but Ian Lake:
    http://members.iracing.com/iforum/me...=587875#587875
Ian makes some great setups that seem to fit my driving style pretty well. I will make a few adjustments but probably nothing major.

Now there is nothing left to do but turn laps. I'm hoping to get started tonight. I think one of the most important things I need to focus on as I get started is the last turn leading onto the oval part of the track and the chicane. It's going to be very important to get the best exit possible out of those corners to get as much speed as possible down the long straights.

Awesome Kris!!!! Thanks very much for getting this thread started! I am excited to finally have my A License and start racing the Prototype this year! Do we want to have a regular practice night and maybe meet on ventrilo? Maybe Monday or Tuesday Nights, something like that -- I know Ricky and I had talked about trying to do the races on Saturday Nights ... I am itching to run Daytona, I am pretty slow right now ran a 1:43.5xx in qualifying trim and about 1 second higher in Race Trim.

That guy has a nice setup. The rear end just settles down as soon as he puts the power down. He seems to be oversteering through the corners (see corner 1 and coming out of the bus stop.) and then he gets on the power early and the back end just settles in very quickly and he is pointing the right way and off again.

I wish I could practice with you guys at night but working on second shift makes it impossible for me to be on at nights during the week. I think I'm going to try and race in the 8am Thursday races for the Pro Series. I'd like to run with you guys on the weekends though.

Yeah, he is an amazing driver. It's really hard to be on edge like that lap after lap. He is consistently 2 to 3 seconds faster than me every week. One of my goals this season is to get my lap times within one second of the fastest guys.

I got my lap times down in the 1:42.6xx range in Qual Trim in the Riley at Daytona so I am gaining on it, but I dont see getting really any faster than that at this point for my Non Alien skill level.

That's great David! I was looking at my best time from Daytona last season and it was a 1:42.812. The top guys were dipping into the 1:39's last season. I'm looking forward to running some laps when I get home tonight.

By the way I am using the setup from Orion Website, not Shawn's but the other one. Seems to be pretty stable and fast.

I think I ran a 1:43.6xx with the setup that Wes posted here last season. I am going to try the Orion setup as well and see how that goes. I don't see me getting below 1:42 but I would like to get into the high 1:42's if possible.

I got in about an hour and forty five minutes of practice today and I really needed it! I was able to my times down from 1:44.X to the 1:41's. My fastest lap in qual trim was a 1:41.264 and my fastest in race trim was a 1:42.192.

I would like to get my times down a little more. I really want to hit 1:40 for qual and I want to be able to run consistent mid 1:41's in the race.

There are two places I need to be more consistent; The first corner and the chicane on the back stretch. I think I can make up a little time there. My optimal lap according to the HUD telemetry is 1:40.8XX so I know I can put together a lap in the 1:40's

The next pro series race is Thursday morning at 8am. I might get up early and run it just in case anything comes up and I can't race this weekend.

Here's an excel sheet I got off the iRacing forums to keep track of laptimes. To get the data to input I just go to http://members.iracing.com/membersit...er/results.jsp and click on the result. In the window that opens up you can select "Laps" and copy them. I normally go into excel on the "scrap" page and then hit "Paste Special" and then select text. I then copy just numbers from the scrap page to the correct track page.

    Here's the file.
