    Default 2010 Season 1 Discussion

So I thought it was a good idea to start a season thread to discuss where your all at in your respective series for the season...

I am planning on running the trucks and Star Mazda, with the impending snow storm just beginning the school canceled practice and the swim meet tomorrow so I had time to get my truck race in at Daytona this afternoon. Through a couple qualifying sessions I was able to get down to a 49.046 which puts me 225th out of 543 for the moment, approximately the 58th percentile which I was quite happy with though I would of loved to get to sub 49 but oh well. I started 6th and ran at the back of the lead group waiting for the impending carnage. I got through it for the most part unscathed but did scrape a truck driving through the crash that knocked the toe out slightly. I was able to stay with the lead group but the truck had lost its extra push and I couldn't do much but push other people. So I ended up 8th but the contact from the first carnage and the slam bang at the finish line dropped my SR a slight bit. Right now I sit at 64 points which puts me 516 out of 1025 right now.

In the Star Mazda at Road America I just can't quite get the handle on it, seems like a competitive time would be 2:03-2:06 but I am still running a mid 2:07. I can't quite get the balance with the wings to stay stable through the turns with the top end speed. I am also having trouble with lockup. So I am planning to work on it a bit tomorrow with the storm basically shutting down everything and hopefully I can get up to speed before the race week is over.

Raced the Daytona Prototype Tuesday night and finished 3rd. I would have finished 4th, but finished on the podium thanks to our very own Scott Bennett, who ran out of fuel with about two laps to go. The SOF wasn't very high for the race, so the 3rd place finish only netted me 88 points. That's pretty good for me though, so I don't think I'll bother with another DP race this week.

I've been tossing about the idea of running the COT's this season, but I may just go ahead and stick with the Late Models. The LM races are plentiful and since they're much shorter in length, easier to fit into my schedule.

Good luck to you in that Mazda Daniel. I could never get a handle on that car and only raced it once at Road America. Every time I went through the "kink" it was white knuckles and a puckered...well, you know what I mean.

    Hi David,

I think I am going to do the Skippy as well.

BTW, when does the week end? Is Sunday night still part of this week or is it next week?

    I think the schedule goes from Monday-to-Monday, starting/ending at 1900 (7:00 P.M.) Eastern.

I finished week one with only two official races. I like to get in at least two races per series each week, because I think that gives me the best opportunity to score the maximum number of points each week. Once you get three or more races, then you start averaging them and a bad result can really ruin your overally weekly average if you can't find the time to race again. By running two races, I know I can at least throw out one bad result.

Race #1: I finished 3rd in the Prototype Challenge at Daytona and scored 88 points.
Race #2: I finished 5th in the Late Model Tour and I scored 94 points.

Last year in the Late Model Tour, I averaged 64.8 points-per-week and finished 15th in my division (5), so I'm not exactly lighting the house on fire, but that's pretty good start to the season for me.

I finally got my Mazda race in Sunday afternoon before the game and it went surprisingly well as I had been dreading it all week. I managed to finish 5th but with the relatively weak strength of field I only took 56 points. So through the first week I am at:

    Trucks: 64 points - 720th out of 1402 (49th percentile)
    Star Mazda: 56 points - 353rd out of 598 (41st percentile)

I got in a Late Model race this afternoon, started from the pole, finished 2nd, and earned 100 points. That's a good number for me, so I probably won't race more than once more in the Late Model Tour this week. I still need a DP race for week three.

    Late Model Tour: 279 pts - 5th place division 3 (49 of 1392).
    Prototype Challenge: 190 pts - 6th place division 5 (38 of 314).

Sorry to hear about your Ankle Troy. You are off to a solid start though. Right now I am focusing solely on the Skippy Division this season, I had a rough week in the first one at Infineon only scoring 52 points, but I did a little better last week at VIR with like 72 points or so... I need to race this week still at Summit Point.
