    Default Upgrading to Vista...

I have a couple of questions before I upgrade. I have 2 hard drives. One with my OS and the other is a slave drive. I recently had my MB and CPU upgraded and when they reinstalled the OS it didn't affect my slave drive at all. When I upgrade to Vista will the slave drive show up after I install Vista or will I have to "find" it and make it show up? (which I have no idea how to do) Thanks for any help. I always screw something up when I try to upgrade stuff like this.

It will show up and be detected by the Operating System (vista).

Just make sure you dont accidentally install your OS on it and overwrite it in the intsall process When it asks you what disk to install to make sure you pick the right one.

Been there, done that... The movie was even worse...

    Ricky,

Since the HD only has data on it, I would think about installing Vista without the HD plugged in. Get Vista up and running ( as close as you can run with Vista... ) then power down, plug in the data HD and bring it back up. At least that way Vista won't decide on it's own that 'Hey a HD, I AM THE OS IT IS MINE!' and proceeds to do dastardly deeds to your important data. Not saying that it won't do that anyway when you plug it in after install, but there's less of a chance...

Ricky, why don't you make a clean install instead of upgrading?

I talked with Ricky Rob, that's what he is going to do. Clean install, (format the XP drive/partition), and he will then pull his personal files and data off the 2nd HD. Ricky I agree with what Henry suggested of just unplugging the other drive before you upgrade so that you dont accidentally over-write it.

Sounds like a good idea. I will unplug my new hard drive. Thanks.

After I upgrade to Vista will I have to get my new motherboard disk and load the drivers on for my MB or will Vista do that when I install the OS?

It will depend if VISTA has drivers on the CD for that motherboard. Chances are it might, so just install VISTA and then if you have some things that are still not detected, go ahead and start installing drivers. But I would check the manufacturer website FIRST before using what's on the CD. the stuff on the CD has a good chance of being outdated. You can also check Windows update and see if there are signed drivers available that you can install that way as well.
