Congratulations to Tim Collier for turning in a team best finish in the season finale of the VOR Sportscar series last night at Lemans! The team had many accomplishments this year and we plan to post a season recap soon, but for now we want to congratulate everyone on a great season and share a screenshot and race recap from Tim's perspective last night.
From Tim Collier after Lemans:
As for my night, I started 5th in class and on the start followed John Rowland in that 96 car thru the first few turns, and for a few moments I thought that he was just being careful and letting the other guys blow their way through...but then I could tell something was wrong when John didn't get thru the turns clean and moved off line to let me and others by. I kept looking at the standings list to see if he would come back, but then I saw the chat message that he had a problem with his steering wheel....really hated to see that as John and I were running pretty close lap times and points racing as well.
On Mulsanne straight, just about every PCC was pulling away from me as I thought they would, figuring everone was running a 7 or less rear spoiler and I chose something higher, and I just hoped that it would offset itself thru the tight slow portions of the track, and it did. I passed one car in Indy, passed Bob thru the 5th gear left-handers, and moved into 4th in class by the end of the first lap. Don Fryman got loose in T2 the next lap and I went by, and then Gary Johnson got loose out of the first chicane on Mulsanne and I moved into second in class. I slowly pulled away each lap from the cars behind me, and at the same time Dwayne Jans was pulling away from me about a second or so a lap and was up by 13 seconds when at the end of Lap 8 I made my pit stop.
I came out of the pits in the same position I went in, and Dwayne was now 30+ seconds ahead and I figured he was long gone. He pitted the next lap and as I came down the front straight, he was just pulling out of the pits and I had a 4 second lead on him with 8 to go!!!
I knew he was too fast to beat, and I just tried to keep it on the track, but of course I slipped up and he went by with 7 to go. I thought he would pull away but he never really did. At one point he jumped out to a 2.5 second lead on me but I caught back up to him by the end of the lap. With 2 to go, here's what we looked like....

While chasing him, and drafting him down the straight (which was great, he was slowly weaving to break the draft!), I ran a personal best lap of 4:09.8!!! We were passed by the V8 leader and with one to go I slipped up in T2 and Dwayne got away. I had hoped to just keep it close until the slow section after Indy where I think I could have passed him for the class win, but I wasn't too upset with my first ever podium finish!!! Even better though was when the race was over and Dwayne slowed up and I pulled beside him to give him the door rub congrats and he honked his horn at me and then pulled behind me flashing his lights. It was a very respectful race between the two of us, and a blast!! The last 7 laps were so intense, I wasn't able to wind down to sleep!!! LOL!!!
Thanks Kevin for a great season of racing, and look forward to more of it!!!
Also, a big thanks to my teammates David Anderson, Paul Rein, John Rowland and Philip Brown....let's get em next season Champion!!
