Wow, they aren't kidding when they say that Atlanta Motor Speedway makes for some great side-by-side finishes. It seems to happen all of the time in the NASCAR series and that was no exception in the Champion Fun Race last night in Simulation Racing. The group decided to test another race after last week's fun at Las Vegas. We had 7 or 8 guys out for the test and fun race last night. We've found that the simulation (TPSCC 1.1 from thePits) has a lot of promise, but there are still some issues to be worked out before it would be ready for large-scale league events. The most notable is a pace car speed issue that can be frustrating.
However, we started the race successfully with Tim Collier on the Pole. He was quickly overtaken by Raymond R, John Rowland, and Wes Tribble. Unfortunately for those 3 they would all be out of the race early. Rowland and Tribble were involved in an early race accident and Raymond followed shortly after when he spun his tires on a restart.
This left Jim S, Paul Rein, David Anderson, and Tim Collier to settle the win. Near the end, there was a restart with about 5 laps to go. Collier started with the lead but Anderson kept him in his sites. He would inch up slightly each lap and sure enough they were side by side on the last lap going down the backstretch. They stayed that way all the way through turns 3 an 4 and it was a drag race to the checkered flag. Collier had enough momentum on the high side to hold off Anderson barely at the S/F line. It was kind of fitting that he was in Dale's car!! Great job Tim, it was extremely exciting finish and fun.
