Default Speed Channel TV Moving to HDTV in February

    SPEED GOES HD IN'08 :

SPEED will make its move to High Definition in 2008, beginning Feb. 7 with 100 hours of NASCAR on SPEED HD from Daytona Speedweeks. Starting with the Gatorade Duel 150’s on SPEED, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, NASCAR RaceDay and all of the other programming SPEED will deliver surrounding the 50th Anniversary of the Daytona 500, it is one of our most visible times of the year for the network and the perfect time to launch our move to HD. SPEED already offers some of the most action-filled programming on television and the move to HD in 2008 enhances all of it exponentially.”

They already are David. I have Direct TV and their are 2 Speed channels, SPDHD and SPD, both listed as channel 607. It's been like that for a couple of months.

I absolutely love it. FIOS is great, the internet has been very good, and it's FAST, and the TV has a good selection of Channels, minus Speed HD! lol.

On Fios I get 15 MB Down, and 1.8 MB Up. They also provide my TV and phone service as well. They get very good reviews overall and I would agree they are good at what they are doing. I just hope they expand the HD lineup like DirecTV is doing.

I have Time Warner in Wisconsin, so I don't plan on seeing Speed HD any time soon... lol we only get like 15 plus locals in HD as it is. The TWC in WI doesn't even have half of the HD channels that TWC has negotiated and are willing to carry (apparently, it's up to the local TWC as to whether or not they carry it).

Milwaukee is such a "hick city"... lets put the BCS game in SD half the time so they can run a weather radar over half the screen. Thank god they at least carry local Chicago stations, albeit only the local Milw. ones are in HD (I'm halfway between Chicago and Milw).

Im on Bellsouth/AT&T/3rd Reich/We control you no matter what because you live in the boonies/old people fart faster dial up.

I get the whopping (stand back for this one) 5k a second transfer rate.
And if the moon and stars are in sync I get 6k.

Thank the maker for Dish Networks!Otherwise I'd be watching snow filled local programing.

I did see an add tonight about some new satellite internet. For the life of me I can remember the name, but it comes with a dish and is "supposed" to be better then broadband.

As for SPEED going HD..they can just keep on going! After they're lame excuse for Lemans converage,V8 coverage ,DTM coverage and FIA GT racing coverage(or lack of) this year I'm about fed up with them.

I guess the only kind of "Racing" there is out there is NASCAM.I just wonder how badly they're going to butcher the Rolex race at Daytona this year. They can promise 16 hours of coverage, but they did that a few years back and as the weekend drew closer, the time went from 16 hours down to 10.

Phew what a rant! Not sure where that came from...back to topic now

Yeah, I used to watch Speedvision, when it was still Speedvision, all the time. Now it's just 24 hour NASCAR and junk. They have maybe one good show left, Dream Car Garage. Superbikes isn't bad either I guess but Pinks is a bit old now IMO. But I miss all the Legends of Motorsport they used to have, F1 Decade, and whatever not to mention same day coverage of FIA rally. Even Windtunnel was cool when it was every day because they would toss it up with different things. Anymore it's just, "so what did you think about 'insert controversial NASCAR element here' this weekend?"

Also, Unique Whips has to be the crappiest show ever. It belongs on MTV. I just remember it was episode 2 or 3 and they were doing some interior for who knows which idiot celeb and the guy took out some blue Krylon spraypaint to match the dash with the super fancy particle board subwoofer box they built. For as much money as those people charge I'd expect more than a can of spraypaint off the shelf at Home Depot.

Oh yeah, just because a channel is in HD doesn't mean all the programming will actually be in HD. I'll bet money the only thing that comes in HD will be NASCAR races and maybe Windtunnel and Speed Report. Everything else will be SD even on the HD channel.
