The Champion Motorsports 1970's GT Challenge is off and running. We completed our first race tonight at Road Atlanta. A field of 15 drivers would take the green flag, with by night's end 8 finishing. The track proved to be difficult as several drivers would fall victim to cut track penalties, but those that could be smooth and keep the car on the pavement were able to prevail and drive to good finishes. Bob Dunlop continues his dominating performances with the GT Legends Physics. He would qualify on the pole and go on to win the race. He had some challenge from Devin OBrien, but Devin would fall back to 5th before the race was over. David Anderson started 7th and steadily worked his way up through the field in his Porsche 906 to a 2nd place finish by night's end. Another 906 would finish in 3rd driven by Mike Hirsch. The good handling of the Porsche's was a nice fit for this track. But the Capri of Bob Dunlop had the power it needed and enough handling to take him to Victory Circle.
Congratulations to all drivers that finished tonight and we are off and running on what should be a very fun series with lots of great racing and competition. Next week we go to Mid-America!
Here is a RACE REPORT from tonight's event.
