Default Personal Opinions about Vista and gaming

My new machines on the way (for those who don't know my old machine finally had enough and committed suicide!..blown motherboard)but the new one has Vista on it. I've heard good and bad things about Vista and gaming, just wondering what you guys think, and if you guys have any advice towards keeping the headaches away.

And yes I have jumped every time I've heard anything that sounds like a UPS truck..I think I'm just about ready for the Olympics as a sprinter

The new system (apprx.) specs are:
    250 gig HD
    2 gig processor
    Geforce 8400GS
    3 gig of RAM

    Charlie,

I just built a new machine also (mine committed hari kari), anyway, I made mine a dual boot, so I could boot Vista or XP Pro. If you are computer savvy, and have licenses for both OS'es, I would suggest the same thing.

I use Vista for gaming and have had very few problems with it. My main gripe was the security notices that pop up every five seconds, but those can be disabled. Just do a google search for vista tweaks and you will see plenty of suggestions.

The benefit to VISTA for gaming is Direct X 10. If you have any DX10 or plan to buy any DX10 games you will need VISTA to run them. Vista also as a service pack 1 which is fixing to be released which will improve some performance issues, bugs, and device support. VISTA and rFactor work just fine together, and as Wes said you can disable User Account Protection. IF you have some devices that you are unsure about having compatible drivers you will want to make sure they exist for VISTA or if they dont you may have to stay with XP until they are available for you. Also with VISTA you want at least 2 GB of RAM, and a modern Processor, as it consumes more resources than XP. But if you have a current generation machine such as a nice Dual Core you should be in good shape. If your hardware is older, XP is the way to go. Goodluck and have fun.

honestly people say im running the worst one you can buy (Vista 64 bit home edition) the only problem i have had was making my webcam work (which on XP still needed lots of tweaking to make it work. i was using an eyetoy.) and my old mic from 1996 wont work.

other than that i really enjoy vista. i got it due to DX10, and wanted to see how it would look on bioshock.
