The Champion Motorsports Community is pleased to announce that we are holding a Special Event for our most active and involved Community Members on the Forums. The event will be to celebrate the 2008 opening of the FIA Formula 1 Season. We will be simulating a 2005 Formula 1 Grand Prix (at Indianapolis GP - USA Grand Prix), in the F1 CTDP 2005 mod for rFactor.
Attendees of the Grand Prix have been invited on special invitation and in the unique format all of the drivers are mirroring in identity as one of their favorite F1 Drivers. Every participant will be in a unique car for the event on March 15th, and represent a unique driver, as we go back in time and simulate what could have been in the now infamous 2005 US Grand Prix.
In tonight's first official practice Jenson Button (driven by David Anderson) would lead the way in the first practice session with a lap time of 1:11.952 in the BAR Honda. He was followed on grid by Juan Pablo Montoya (Jeff Chandler) with a 1:12.352 in his McLaren, and Kimi Rikknen (Tim Collier) also in a McLaren with 1:12.875.

If we go back in time to 2005 and compare the lap times from tonight to the actual US Grand Prix we find some interesting similarities. In the Friday First practice session from 2005,
here were the results:
In tonight's practice 11 of the 19 eligible drivers participated in the first practice. We will have a 2nd practice session next Tuesday Night March 11th, which will be extended to 2 hours. The race will again be on March 15, (Saturday Night), which is also the beginning night of the 2008 F1 season, so we will be celebrating by running our event, and then tuning in for the F1 Season Opener on Television.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our community leaders at Champion Motorsports, which are our most active and involved members, who help keep the community thriving. This race is just for them and we are very appreciative of all that they do to keep our hobby fun. We'll be back after the practice session #2 and the Race to report more on this special event -- so stay tuned!
