Daytona Road Course
Neal Johnson wins an event filled day at Daytona Road Course in the CMS LMS World Division 5 class event!
Neal took the pole, set fast lap, and by a margin of 1 led the most laps including the most important final lap. Neal got off to a rough start (pun intended) by jumping the start and getting a bit ahead of the pace car thus incurring a drive thru putting him imediately at the back of the field.
He was able to put his head down and "get on with it" working his way slowly but surely back towards the front. His 1st break came when Team Barista driver Brian Farmer lost his rear end entering the fast chicane and mangled his car on the guardrail. Even after an extremely long repair he found it ill handling and had lost 20mph on top end. Farmer decided it was time better spent to retire and grab a nap.
Then on lap 46 Neal got a 2nd big break when while exiting the pits he witnessed Hein spitting his car in half on the guardrail in turn 4. It was easy sailing for Neal from that point on, as he went on to take the victory in P1.
Perhaps the most amazing story of the event was new comer Cedric Collins finishing an impressive 2nd in P1 class in what was his 1st event in the CMS LMS World Division ever! Cedric was followed home by Joe Owens in a very solid run to 3rd.
Another impressive run by a new comer was Tomasz Luty taking the victory for P2.
Turning a rough start into a steady road to victory in LMPC class was Paul Hamilton followed in 2nd by yet another one of our new drivers Val Hoggard. Rounding out the final spot for LMPC was Martin Koehler returning for his 2nd season here at CMS. It would appear that this season is going to produce a very competitive batch of rookies in deed!
The next event in the CMS LMS World Division will be the GT challenge at Autopolis on Suday Feb 27th.
