Default Joe Junior Wins 2nd Race of Radical Masters Series at Oulton Park

The second race of the Winter 2012 CMS iRacing Radicals Series was held this week at Oulton Park, and it was an excellent event with just an incredible car and track layout combination for the race. CMS newcomer Joe Junior would take the victory in the race, leading 33 of the 35 laps in an impressive victory.

For the event the CMS crew decided to go with the Oulton Park Island configuration for track. It turned out to be a very fun, yet challenging and high focus layout for the event. The Island configuration of Oulton Park has some very fast sweeping corners, but is also very technical and as a driver you don't get much rest and mentally have to be on at all times.

We saw a wide range of speeds and times on this track, but those proved to be less important than just being able to run consistently and not make errors and mistakes. During qualiyfing Joe Junior would take the P1 with Mike Swanson alongside in P2 for the front row. Don Fryman and Jamie Shorting would qualify behind them on the 2nd row with great runs as well.

When the green flag fell the front row got out clean with Joe taking the lead and Mike falling in behind for the chase. It was a difficult track to pass on, so those positions held for the duration of the race, with Joe only letting go of the lead to take his mandatory pit stop. A total of twelve drivers would compete in the event and the attrition was somewhat high with 6 not finishing. Ryan Mathews was the last to score points by race end with 3 points, and finishing in the 8th position as well as making the required 60% race distance.

The top five in the race were Junior, Swanson, followed by Shorting and then Ray Zercut in 4th. Wayne Fitzgerald would be the 5th place finisher. Also finishing the race were David Anderson in 6th and Steven Clark in 7th. Both drivers having solid runs, but finding that the competition in this Winter series is definitely strong.

Our finale for the series will be in two weeks as we head to Mid Ohio (Chicane) for the last race. Both of the first two events have been very well attended, and we hope and expect a similar field at the last race. Checking in on the Championship we have a close battle. Mike Swanson is up front with two excellent 2nd place finishes in the first two events. He has a total of 32 points. He is followed closely by Jamie Shorting with 26, as Jamie has had two excellent top five finishes as well. Brad Wrenn our winner at Watkins Glen and then Joe Junior are behind each with 20 points and a race win to their credit.

Additionally any driver that competes a minimum of 60% of the total laps completed across the three races will have the chance to win our iRacing Credit Prize for the Series. Currently we have posted 75 laps in the series across two races and the 60% mark is 45 laps. We find a bunch of drivers over that mark with a shot at the prize drawing at the end of the series. Here is a run down of our eligible drivers through 2 races.

    -Mike Swanson
    -Jamie Shorting
    -Brad Wrenn
    -Wayne Fitzgerald
    -Steven Clark
    -Don Fryman
    -David Anderson
    -Javier Torres

There are also several other drivers that are close to the mark and heading into the last race will have a chance to complete over 60% as well based on a strong finish in the last race at Mid Ohio! That leaves us checking out for now, everyone have a great holiday and we'll see you in two weeks for the finale race of the series at Mid Ohio!
