iRacing News - Trucks Series at Daytona
May 7, 2010 ... Daytona, Florida
Champion Motorsports iRacing Truck series made its first stop of the season at Daytona International Speedway last Friday night. A couple of new faces joined many returning CMS veterans for the 60 lap event that had its share of yellow flags(4) and long side by side green flag runs.
Side-by-side racing action as the field takes the green flag.
Eric Frohlich grabbed the pole with a lap time of 49.016 and lead the 11 truck pack into turn one of the season. The side by side racing at Daytona leaves little margin for error and any mistake can result in THE BIG ONE!
Shawn Gayton takes a wild ride in the early going.
John Hyatt and Steve Szabo's trucks seem to have magnets and their trucks came together, resulting in the first yellow flag on the season. After pit stops Tyler Head and Shawn Gayton got together in the tri-oval spinning Shawn in the middle of the track(pictured). Every Driver did a fine job of avoiding the wreck and all drivers continued on. After one more caution and pit stops the remaining drivers made their final adjustments for the remaining 20 laps.
Corey Card leads the field in a tight battle to the finish
Corey Card had the lead coming out of the yellow and never looked back. Bob Bevins, Troy Dalton, and Neil Frohlich all gave Corey a challenge but with Corey holding the bottom line, the high line could never get enough momentum to complete the pass.
Corey Card takes the checkered flag after a late caution.
Unfortunately the race would finish under yellow when Neil Frohlich and Bob Bevins running on the high line got into Corey Card turning both Neil and Bob into the wall, both drivers could continue but with the lack of a green-white-checkered finish in iRacing the remainder of the race would finish under yellow.
Corey Card with this win makes him 2 for 2 in CMS Daytona races and gives him a great start to the season point standings. Congratulations Corey Card who lead 47 out of the 60 laps.
Next week CMS iRacing truck series takes its show to Atlanta motor speedway. Will there be a return of past season Champion Calum McNicol, Will Corey Card continue his win streak, will more past CMS drivers attend(hopefully)? Find out next week at Friday night in Atlanta.
