Bryan put in yet another stellar performance at the Course de Cote de Licques of the France Hillclimb Cup. He finished 8th overall, and was faster than his Hungarian nemesis kikiny, who has a stranglehold on the Group N lead. But, he narrowly missed out on the N4 win once again, this time by a margin of 0.41 seconds. For the year, Bryan is now 4th in Group N and tied for 5th in class 4 in the Hillclimb Cup.

Both Bret and Aaron competed in France Tarmac Cup rallies this week. Bret had ups and downs at the foggy and damp Rallye de Vallees, but scored his 4th straight top 8 finish since moving to the N1 class. Aaron was back with us after some computer troubles, but was still having some problems with the new virtual co-driver we sent him out with. Getting used to a new notes system during a rally is never fun, and unfortunately the result was a bent Peugeot 205 and a DNF at the Rallye Coeur de France.

Steven, Rick, and Jerry hit the only gravel rally of the week, the Rallye Terre des Causses. This was the 5th round of the France Gravel Championship. Steven was looking for a little better luck than he had in earlier rounds and he got it. Despite a mistake that dropped him a couple of places in class R2, he collected 162 points to lead the stable for the week. Rick had a very solid rally, finishing 19th of the 96 entrants in the top A8W class for World Rally Cars and 38th overall. Jerry set some very quick times on Leg 1 of the rally, but a crash on the fast and tricky Diamond Creek II caused his retirement on Leg 2.

This week there are a lot of points up for grabs. Steven and Jerry are at the WRC Rallye Deutschland, where the action should be very challenging and fast. Aaron and Rick head back to Madagascar for what is probably the premier RSRBR gravel championship. Justin is slated for the Rallye du Mont Blanc of the France Tarmac Championship. Hundreds of hairpin turns await, and I'm sure Justin is looking forward to each of them. Finally, Bryan and Bret plan to head to the Pondron Hillclimb Cup event, where weather looks like it will play a decisive role. Best of luck to all on what should be a challenging week!

The event overall winner in an AlonsoJohnson Racing 997 GT was Neal Johnson, and in second Podium place was Hein Houweling driving an Howling Racing 997 GT,and last but not least on the overall podium was James Sharkus driving a Drunken Squirrel Racing 997 GT.

In the GTC class,Paul Hamilton driving his Miskatonic Motorsports 997 GTC,took the class win over Joe Owens who was driving his TeamUK 997 GTC.

Napoleon has been defeated at Magny Cours ... Kris Hudson (Acura ARX-02A) crowns himself as the new emperor of CMS. Dwayne Jans (Acura ARX-01B) is promoted to field general with his P2 win, proving that an intelligent sniper can be just as dangerous as the artillery man's cannon. Taking home 1st in class, Scott Clark (Ford GT) leads his battered troops back home after fighting well in the GT trenches.

Second place P2 finisher, Mike Tribble (Pescarlo Mazda) and 3rd place finisher, Dave Slee (Pescarolo Mazda), were pulling in some impressive lap times at the beginning of the race, rivaling that of the P1 drivers with their fluid and aggressive racing technique that was being displayed in its full grandeur.

A brilliant performance was put in by Philip Brown (Lola Judd EX264), finishing 3rd in the P1 class with his Lola Judd EX264, surprising the generals who allowed him to step outside of the CMS intelligence bunker and onto the battlefield. They wanted to see what kind of "fight" was in Philip, but mon Dieu, they had no idea that he would step off the trauma-train with a podium finish in hand. The true battle was found in the GT class with James Sharkus (Porsche 997 GT3) declaring that "real warriors return from the dead-zone with blood on their hands", garnering a 2nd place finish behind Scott. After Magny Cours, the tin-tops have been renamed the "Blood Bucket Brigade", as the fighting was fierce and relentless. David Anderson (Porsche 997 GT3) received two separate shrapnel injuries going into T1, but still hangs in there to finish 3rd in class, bravo David!

A battlefield memorial was dismantled shortly after the race for Tanner Berry, Max Bradshaw, Rob Berry and Paul Hamilton, as all were thought to have been killed by a stray mortar while napping, but luckily they were found recovering at a French infirmary, with bi-lingual nurses tending to their wounds and pride. The true Purple Heart goes to Devin Obrien (Acura ARX-01B), as his ferocious counter attacks against Dwayne ended his race prematurely when he sustained horrible suspension damage. Many of the top CMS fighters will return, as they were absent on furlough, well rested ... but watch out, the battle-hardened fighters with whom they rejoin finds no respite in R&R.

The CMS National Runoffs series, run using rfactor, begin 10/3. We will actually be using 4 different mods during this series, culminating in a very special night of racing.

We will be simulating what club racers go through each year to make it to the most prestigious amateur road racing event in the US, the SCCA National Runoffs. They begin each year racing in regional club events across the US. Success in these events lead to an invitation to run in the Nationals, a one week winner-take all event. Just like many of the most dedicated club racers, we will actually be running more than one SCCA class. In fact, we will be running representations of 4 popular SCCA classes: Spec Racer Ford, Grand Touring, Showroom Stock, and Formula Vee.

About the SCCA Runoffs

The American Road Race of Champions began in 1964, as a non-championship round of the SCCA National Sports Car Championship. In 1965 the series was abolished, and national championships were awarded to each regional champion. The champions and other top drivers were invited to the ARRC. in 1987, and the race became known as the Runoffs in 1987.

For the first six years, the event alternated between Riverside International Raceway on the west coast and Daytona International Speedway on the east coast. The race found a permanent home at Road Atlanta in 1970, staying there until the track's bankruptcy in 1993. The Runoffs moved to Mid-Ohio from 1994 until 2005, then to Heartland Park Topeka from 2006 until 2008. The event moved to Road America in 2009.

About the classes

SPORTS RACING: There are four classes of purpose-built road racing cars with full fiberglass bodies. Underneath, these cars are pure racing machines. The Spec Racer Ford (SRF) is a one-design, single seat car utilizing a sealed Ford engine. It is SCCA's largest class and continues to provide cost effective racing for over 800 competitors. We will run the Spec Racer Ford mod for this class

SHOWROOM STOCK: With its roots from the early 1970s, Showroom Stock features late-model mass-produced street cars like those bought right off the showroom floor. Aside from a bolt-in roll cage and safety equipment, there are very few modifications allowed to the cars. The CMS/MM Club Racer mod, which includes the MINI Cooper S, the Lotus Elise, and the Miata will represent this class.

FORMULA: The eight formula classes are all single-seat, open wheel racecars. They are built to detailed specifications for weight, size and engine displacement. We will run the Historic Formula Vee mod for this class.

GRAND TOURING: GT cars are purpose-built, highly modified “silhouette” replicas of series-produced sports sedans. We will run the Toyata AE86 mod in GT.

The Schedule and the Tracks: These tracks were chosen because they are all club level tracks you could go racing on yourself at a SCCA or NASA event.

10/3- Eagles Canyon: Eagles Canyon Raceway features 2.55 miles, 4 straights over 1,300 feet long, 15 turns, and 70 feet of elevation change. We will run Spec Racer Ford

10/10- Motorsports Ranch 1.7 CW: MEstablished in 1996, the Ranch introduced and pioneered the concept of a Country Club for motoring enthusiasts. The Road Course is 1.7 miles long, is 40 feet wide, has 11 turns, off camber turns, elevation changes. We will run the Spec Racer Ford

10/17- Hallett Motor Racing Circuit: Just 35 miles west of downtown Tulsa, Hallett is one of the region's most attractive motor racing sites. Hallett has over 80 feet of elevation change and is considered Technically Difficult. We will run CMS/MM Club Racer

11/7- Harris Hill Road (CW): H2R is nestled in the hills of northeastern San Marcos, Texas. The track is a 1.8-mile, 11-turn asphalt road course. The course is 36-feet wide with over 150 feet of elevation changes and a challenging mix of on and off-camber turns, including the 80-foot rise and drop of Santa Rita (Turn 4, named after the patron saint of the impossible task). We will run the CMS/MM Club Racers.

11/14- Driveway Austin (elevation): On the the Elevation Course we have emulated the “corkscrew” from the famous Laguna Seca course in Monterey, California. These extreme elevation changes add the “Z” axis, dynamically changing the effective weight of your vehicle. We will run the Formula Vee

11/21- MidAmerica Motorplex (full): Mid America Motorplex started as a simple sketch when world-renowned track designer Alan Wilson was asked to create a driver friendly, yet challenging course that would take many laps to master. The finished product is a 2.23 mile long racing circuit, a 40 foot wide polymer surface, with 15 turns of increasing radiuses, decreasing radiuses, long straights, ample passing zones, challenging switchbacks, and a flat out kink. This track is the only track of the group whose track level graphics do not represent reality. In this track authors reality, MAM somehow attracted F1 to Iowa! The racing surface, however, is well modeled so just enjoy (or ignore) the extra scenery. We will run the Formula Vee

11/28- Topeka Heartland GP: A multi-purpose motorsports facility located 5 miles (8 km) south of Topeka, Kansas. When it opened in 1989, it was the first brand-new auto racing facility to be built in the United States for 20 years. We will run the Toyata AE86

12/5- Texas World Speedway (CCW): Texas World Speedway was built in 1969 and is one of only seven superspeedways of two miles (3 km) or greater in the United States. We will use the 2.9-mile road course at TWS, featuring a total of 15 turns (nine left-handers and six right-handers). The road course twisties vary from the 170 degree, 30mph Turn #10 hairpin to Turn #1 at the end of the front straight. We will run the Toyata AE86

12/19- SPECIAL EVENT CMS National Runoffs at Road America: In April 1955, the Road America track was carved out of 525 acres of Wisconsin farmland. By September 10, 1955 the track's first SCCA national race weekend was held. Millions of dollars in improvements have been made throughout the years, but the original 4.048-mile, 14-turn configuration has never been altered. We will run all 4 classes in 25min races during this CMS Special Event.

Regional Race day schedule:
Practice: 8-9pm CT
Qualify: 15min beginning at 9pm
Warmup: 5min
Race: 45min beginning ~9:20

The average finishing results of the regional races for each class will determine the grid position for the Nationals event. This is being done both to make the Regionals have some meaning (such as they do in SCCA), but also so we do not have to spend time qualifying each class on the Nationals raceday. As this is a Fun Series event, you do not have to attend any of the regional events to race in the Nationals, just show up. You will be gridded, however, behind those who were able to attend the regionals.

CMS Nationals Special Event Race day schedule:
Practice: 7:30-8:30pm CT
Qualify: none. results of regional races will be used to grid the Nationals
Warmup: 5min
Race: 25min per race, 4 races, beginning ~8:30pm

Two days later the three get to the camping site only to find Ron sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire.
"Dang man, how long you been here, and how did you talk your wife into letting you go?"
"Well, I've been here since yesterday. Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, 'Guess who?'" I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing a brand new nightie. She took my hand, pulled me to our bedroom. There were candles and rose petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did.

And then she said, "Do what ever you want."

PoR Recap - Week 33: Going Dutch helps to score us some points

In these tough economic times, it's always nice to have someone to split the bill with. This week six Press on! Rallysport drivers paired off and headed to three events, two in France and one in the Netherlands. When the dust, spray and tire smoke settled, we had our fourth best points total of the year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmA1yZZo7dw

Jerry and Steven loaded up the trailers for the short trip from our Belgian workshops to Etten-Leur, Netherlands for the Exotic Green Rally. The points system for the Dutch Championship is a bit like the Dutch welfare state itself – very generous, but everyone gets about the same amount - no matter how hard you work at it. Steven loves this arrangement since he thrives on simply outlasting the faster guys – and he's just a dirty socialist. Jerry loves the Dutch Championship because, well, they let him enter a WRC car. Both of our guys came away with a hefty points subsidy, scoring a combined 318 for the stable. Steven had one of his best rallies of the year, bringing his Peugeot 207 R3T home 34th overall and 3rd in class A7. Jerry finished 70th overall and 20th in A8W in his Ford Focus WRC. The only bummer of the weekend was when Steven found out that Exotic Green isn't some great new environmental technology – it's a temporary employment agency for Eastern European agricultural and food processing workers. He had even bought the story about the composting porta-potties!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNQY36LGr-g

Our second podium finish came from Bret. He and Bryan headed down to the Alps for the Chamrousse hillclimb. Bret posted a time of 1:14.30 on his first run, which earned him 3rd place in class N1. His first run time was also fastest in the class - just 0.55 seconds off the winning time in N1. Bryan had a mishap on his first attempt up the hill and had to retire. His second run would have easily placed him first in class N4, but unfortunately it didn't count due to the earlier abandonment. So, he continues to make us wait in anticipation for that win we know will come – he's become our Jeff Gordon.

Our final pairing was Justin and Rick, who braved the fog and rain that swept in off the English Channel at the Rallye de Boulogne sur Mer. Rick literally returned from vacation by sailing into port and hopping into his Impreza. Spending some time at sea must have helped, as Rick seemed accustomed to the conditions. He finished 74th overall and 8th in class with very little prep. Justin followed just 40 seconds behind, coming home 6th in A8 in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. On the ride back to Ghent, Rick regaled Justin and the service crew with tales from the sea. Unfortunately, the two of them have now decided to start a month-long lead up to International Talk Like a Pirate Day (http://www.yarr.org.uk/). Arrrr, here's to hopin' it wears off soon mateys, or we'll be installin' a plank on top of the hauler!

Also, we've been having some great fun with the PoR Rallysprints on Monday nights. The last couple of weeks have used the BTB stages that we normally don't get to run. Here's a sample..come out and join us if you get a chance!

With champagne and a baguette raised high in each hand, Drew McLean celebrates his GT win at Magny Cours and Phil Emore brings home 1st place in the coveted GTC class.

The podium finishers just punished the rest of the field with their incredible display of racing finesse and speed. The French were aghast that not one of their own kind were fast enough to breach the top 20 at CMS Racing (nor were they allowed too ;-)! Some very intense racing between Drew, Kris and Hein with some equally intense laps that were fought out between Phil and Paul in the GT class.

GT Class
1st: Drew McLean (BMW E92 - Uranus Racing West)brings home the victory for the GT class
2nd: Kris Hudson (Corvette C6-RGT - Hudson Design)
3rd: Hein Houweling (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR - Howling Racing)

GTC Class
1st: Phil Elmore (Porsche 997 GTC - Terrapin Racing)
2nd: Paul Hamilton (Porsche 997 GTC - Miskatanic Motorsports)
3rd: Emmanuel Baako (Porsche 997 GTC - ILMS)

For the bottom 3 drivers who's race at Magny Cours ended prematurely, they were found raiding one of the local French villages for fresh chicken, red wine and blue cheese, inviting local gypsies for a botched-race celebration that lasted well into the next morning.
