"Rookie" wins CMS World season opener at Road America!

Sunday saw the opening round of the 2012 season for the CMS World division, and just as amazing as the glorious venue was the fact that the LMP1 and overall win was taken by CMS "rookie" Ricardo Azevedo! In his very 1st race with CMS Ricardo shows that he has the speed, skills, and ability to stay out of trouble and bring it home for the win. Bringing home a solid 2nd in P1 after multiple spins was Team ClairBCN's Neal Johnson, with Supertex Peugeot driver Vinicius Goncalves finishing 3rd after taking the pole with a blistering lap of 1:45.562.

Another opening round surprise came in LMP2 when Team Espresso's Steen Nielsen took the P2 class win and his teammate Brian Farmer made it a Team Espresso 1-2. Rounding out the 3rd spot on the P2 podium was Hardtail Racing's Tom Mountjoy.

In the LMPC division it would be Miskatonic Motorsports Paul Hamilton taking 1st place, with FITZ racing's Wayne Fitzgerald taking a hard fought 2nd, while Team Momo driver Bob Roberson brought it home for 3rd.

Starting off in the same fashion in which he finished the 2011 season was Kroenert Motorsports driver Frank Sumfleth taking the win in GT1, with Team HMI's Jerry Hamilton having the honors of being the 1st driver of the 2012 season to put the new Lamborghini on the podium by finishing 2nd. Team Cartop's Michael Mortensen also got his 2012 season off to a great start earning valuable 3rd place points.

In GT2 class it was returning CMS driver Jakob Kristensen putting his Kristensen Motorsports Ferrari F430 in victory lane, followed by CMS rookies Andy Hopkins in 2nd, and Javier Torres in 3rd. All in all it appears to have been an excellent day to be a rookie!

The next event in the CMS 2012 S1 World division will be at St. Petersburg on Sunday 03/04/2012!

True that John! Very sorry you had issues. I know you had the speed to beat but were robbed by the technical goblins. From the sound of it you and I were having the same issue. I barely got back in time to make the start myself. It destroyed my pre race routine and had me so rattled I was still jumpy by lap 9 I still do not understand exactly WHY it is but the only thing that seemed to keep me from getting disco''d from the race was rebooting, and turning my details down from full to med.

The reason I dont understand is that we used this same track last season, had 29 cars, same length race, and my system is the same, but last season I was able to run details at full with no issues. The ONLY thing that was different is we had 32 cars instead of 29, and we are using SP2 instead of SP1. I am starting to get curious if something in SP2 or the Lambo or Oreca is more demanding? I did test off line with 35 AI cars thru the week with no issues. However I beleive it was with all P2 cars so... That points my suspicion even more towards the new cars. I can tell you this though. The rest of the season the 1st time I get booted or freeze up, the 1st thing IM trying is reducing details in my settings

I too dropped mine from full to medium when I was able to get back in for the restart. Started DEAD LAST. By the end of lap 1 I was 12th I think and had to lift in the carosell and that was the end of my day since the back of the car wanted to go faster than the front. Made it back to the pits, and just pushed as hard as I could until I wrecked again having to lift coming up on a GT car. That was the end of my day. Next race I won't lift.... LOL
