Default Forza 4 Historic Trans-Am Series: Race 4 Results, Recap, Stories

    Recap

Round 4 of the Forza 4 Historic Trans Am series visited wine country this weekend with two groups of racers running the long version of Infineon Raceway (formerly Sears Point). Due to the popularity of the series, we split the field into two groups as there is just not enough space on the grid for everyone that wanted to run!

This week the finishing order was also shaken up a bit. This week Mike Waltz was determined to take the top spot on the podium after two consecutive 2nd place finishes. And boy did he ever take the top spot, flying the Javelin into first place with a lead of over 15 seconds. He also set the fastest lap on the way to his dominating victory.

Second place went to newcomer Tiberius Strong, with 3rd place once again going to Ryan Smith, less than a second and a half behind Tiberius.

The rest of the field was very close with 2nd thru 8th places separated by a spread less than 13 seconds wide. Lap times were equally close, as this series continues to provide very close racing. Expect to see the racing get even better as drivers get more familiar with their cars as the series progresses!

This week's results had a big effect on the points race. While Scott Brizinski holds on to the top points position with 42 points, it is now only a 3 point gap with Mike Waltz breathing down his neck in second with 39 points. Ryan Smith's consistent finishes puts him in third with 30 points. There are also tight points battles with only a 4 point spread between 4th, 5th, and 6th. Further down the field we see a lot of ties with 7th and 8th, 9th and 10th, 11th and 12th all tied.

See you next week in Atlanta, GA when the Trans Ams visit Road Atlanta!

Qualifying race... I started P2 behind Cam. After the last two races I was not going to make contact with him trying to pass, and he was pretty damn fast anyways, so I just settled in behind him. He started having trouble with his shifting though, and I was able to get inside him coming out of 6 and he let me go. After that I had a pretty comfortable lead, last lap, and my Fanatec PWTS wheel has a seizure and goes full left on me right in the middle of the esses. The car went into the wall on the left and bounced back onto the track. The pedals stopped responding too, so I was stuck there in the middle of the track, with the field thundering down. Total chaos. I think miraculously only one car hit me. I power cycled the wheel and got going again, which put me second to last. I guess the PWTS just does this from time to time. I hope it's not an emerging pattern...

Anyways, this put me at the front of the field for the main, P2 behind Fernando. I got away smooth but Fernando had a good start too, so I couldn't pass. He went into 2 a lot slower than I expected. I couldn't slow enough and ended up bumping him, which caused a kind of chain reaction where P3 (Chad?) bumped me. Fernando and I kept going but I look back and Chad is completely sideways with cars all over the place. Looked like fun.
Anyways I followed Fernando down to 4 and got inside him on braking. He drove straight off the track, which put me in the lead. Wheelin was pretty close at this point, but I was able to slowly pull away from him over the next 3 or so laps. Somewhere in there he went off and then I had a comfortable lead and cruised home.

The lap times for this one were very interesting. There were several cars within a second of the fastest lap. People are getting a handle on these things. I think the racing is only going to get better and better.

I have this issue with my Fanatec GT3 RS also. The common "fix" for it on PC is to buy a separate PCI USB card.

What ended up working for me was to plug my clubsport pedals into a separate USB port instead of being plugged into the wheel. I also changed USB plugs to ones farther away from from the power supply on my machine. I haven't had the issue since.

I know that doesn't help you on the console, but maybe try changing the USB port you use.

Good race guys, I tried to get in with Marks group but was just glad to get in somewhere to race. Pulled an epic 1:49.733 clean in qualifying, which still didn't post on the leaderboard which doesn't like me apparently. Otherwise a smooth race just hitting my marks. Final race started in the back and slowly worked my way up and nearly had a scary moment when we were three wide going into 9 or 10! Thankfully we all played nice got through unscathed! Came up through the rest of the guys over the rest of the laps and pulled a slight lead, only managed 1:51's I believe just trying to stay smooth. I noticed the t/a's were pushing very hard through many of the corners and I did a few laps in the '77 the other day and it was certainly a handful for me. Overall thought there was a good chance of a top two... but I see the Mike's Javelin was in another time zone ha! Have to admit I really felt a connection with this track for some reason, where Sedona was a bit of a struggle. I'm just glad to have found some quality people to run with and a series so fun as this one! Looking forward to more of the same and perhaps other future series in forza. Thanks for the sweaty palms and a renewed love of forza!

The first race was great with swapping positions all over the place, but I made a couple very big mistakes as the race went on.

The second was really the perfect storm for me, got out in front early and waited for the inevitable. Once Daniel went by I just tried to study his lines and follow the best I could, dropped my lap times quite a bit following him. I couldn't keep his pace, but I was able to keep my lap times low and stayed very consistent.

Really happy to finish where I did among some very fast guys.

Daniel, sorry for not getting your name on the results, I will fix that soon! I have been having some issues keeping peoples names matched up with their gamertag. If I am missing anyone else's name please let me know, ideally I would like to have names for everyone.
