Jack of All Trades Lanier Dirt Throwback - Jack of All Trades (Round 1) - Driver's Briefing

    Race Sign-In

Due to this round of the Jack of All Trades being a Dirt round, please sign-up here so that the event organizers can get a good head-count for the race and see if multiple heat sessions are needed for this round.

    -------------------------

The Jack of All Trades series will start its inaugural season with a bit of a throwback event by traveling over to Lanier National Speedway. Lanier National Speedway, now known as Lanier Raceplex, has hosted Super Late Models, SuperTrucks, Legends, Bandoleros, and more since its inception in 1982 as a 0.375 dirt track. Opening as Lanier Raceway, this small complex located just outside of Braselton, Georgia, across from the more well known Road Atlanta, hosted dirt track events for a few years before paving over the dirt and creating the 0.375 mile oval that has been in use since. Lanier National Speedway been the sight of scrappy local short track battles as well as races under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and everything in between, playing host to the likes of Dale Earnhardt, Darrel Waltrip, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and other NASCAR superstars through 2011. Since then, major races still took place, but Lanier's place in weekly short track action was put on hold until road racer Jim Downing purchased the facility and renamed it the Lanier Raceplex in 2014.

Coming January 10th, 2018, Lanier National Speedway is turning back the clock, giving us here at Champion Motorsports a chance to race back on the dirt banks once more as the owners have allowed us to dump dirt on the racing surface to recreate the feel of early '80s southern dirt track racing. The Jack of All Trades series will take part in this once in a lifetime event to slide around in specially prepared Street Stocks provided by DIRTcar Racing, to enjoy some great wheel-to-wheel racing as was had back in the early years of Lanier.

    -------------------------

    The Orange Zone

The Orange Zone for each heat will consist of the entire 0.375 mile track for the first two laps of the event. Any incident that causes heavy wheel-to-wheel contact, draws out a yellow flag, or results in a driver having to take a tow due a terminally damaged race car during the first two laps of any heat will be reviewed by the race review committee, possibly resulting in penalties for future races. Passing must be done with caution. As this is a Dirt event, contact is expected and spins may occur, especially when the cars are bunched together for the start of the event.

The Orange Zone will also be in effect for the first lap after any race restart.

    -------------------------

    Race Procedure

Once the final practice has been completed, the official race session will open up. Drivers will have an additional 15 minutes to load in, finalize setups, and make final preparations for the round.

Qualifying will open up with Lone Qualifying, which will set heat qualifying for each of the three heats. Drivers will be assigned to their heat based off of qualifying position. The fastest driver will start on the pole position of the first heat, the second fastest driver will start on the pole position of the second heat, the third driver will start on the pole position of the third heat, with each position and heat following given to the next fastest driver remaining (i.e., fourth fastest is second in heat one, fifth fastest is second in heat two, etc.).

Once qualifying has completed the heats will begin. Drivers in Heat 2 and Heat 3 will be observing while drivers in Heat 1 will compete. The top five drivers in each heat will automatically qualify for the Feature race. Each heat will consist of an eight (8) lap race.

Heat 2 and Heat 3 will commence, the same way as Heat 1, qualifying the first fifteen drivers for the Feature. All non-automatically qualifying drivers will compete in the Last Chance Qualifier. The top five drivers in the Last Chance Qualifier will qualify for the final five positions in the Feature. The Last Chance Qualifier will consist of a twelve (12) lap race.

The Feature, with twenty drivers competing, will determine the finishing order of the first twenty positions for the round. Drivers who did not qualify for the Feature in the Last Chance Qualifier will make up the positions twenty-first and lower. The Feature will consist of a thirty (30) lap race.

There will be one fast repair for each heat, one fast repair for the Last Chance Qualifier, and one fast repair for the Feature. Lap information will be also be posted at the top of the information bar in iRacing's UI in case there are any questions/discrepancies with the information provided.

    -------------------------

    Full Course Yellows

Full course yellows will be enabled for this event with NO Lucky Dog awarded in the event of a caution. Restarts will occur as a double file restart with lapped cars being placed at the back of the grid. Pit stops and service to your car may be taken at your discretion. The race can end under yellow flag conditions. If the race ends under yellow flag conditions, the results will be set as unofficial based on the order of the cars as they complete the final lap of the race under yellow flag conditions.

During a full course yellow, you will be required to follow iRacing's prompts in regards to procedures for full course yellows. You will be expected to maintain pace with the pace car and the pacing field. If at any point you fail to maintain the pace of the pace car and pacing field and iRacing's automated marshals determine you are under yellow flag pace, you may be required to give up your position and drop back through the field, ceding one or more positions.

    -------------------------

    Starts/Restarts

For race start, once the pace car has pulled off the racing surface and the spotter has made the announcement that the pace car has left the track surface, the leader is to maintain a consistent pace and keep the field packed as it was during pacing behind the pace car. No driver is to accelerate until iRacing's race control has displayed the green flago passing attempts to the inside line are allowed to be made before a driver has crossed the start/finish line. Once a driver has passed the start/finish line, racing may be resumed as normal.

For race restarts, once the pace car has pulled off the racing surface and the spotter has made the announcement that the pace car has left the track surface, the leader may choose to accelerate and bring the field back up to racing speed at any point. The leader must cross the line first and passing attempts to the inside line are not allowed until a driver has crossed the start/finish line. Once the green flag has dropped, all cars may resume racing as normal.

    Missed/Additional Information

    -------------------------

    Final Notice

If there are any questions, feel free to respond to the thread below as others may have the same or similar question in mind. A response will be posted in the "Missed/Additional Information" section and may be appended to future Driver's Briefings.

As this is the first race of the season, there will be a lot of excitement and nerves will be high. Please take care not to try to be a lap one hero only to end your day and possibly the day of others in the hauler. With that in mind, have fun and welcome to the Jack of All Trades.

James just a thought for you. During your practice sessions you might want to break them up into 1/3rds so the track wont slick off so bad. Most guys will have a hard enough time in the dirt put them on a dry slick and it could get a bit furstrating to those that dont quite understand dirt.

Me personally like the slick stuff you have to drive the car instead of mash and go.

    Again just thought

EDIT maybe 1.5hr session 1 and 1.5hr session 2 and then 1 hour session 3 full on slick stuff

With the hosted sessions, iRacing offers 1 and 2 hour sessions. I may split the sessions in half to facilitate a clean track. Bear in mind, I do have the sessions staggered on Thursday and then on Tuesday so that those who join in early on Thursday will get a clean track and those that join in later on in the session for Thursday will be able to have that clean track on Tuesday as the session starts later.
