Default Global Mazda MX-5 Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca - Jack of All Trades (Round 4)

Global Mazda MX-5 Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca - Driver's Briefing

Round 4 of the Jack of All Trades series brings the drivers to the iconic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Originally just called Laguna Seca Raceway when it was built in 1957, it has since been sponsored by the automotive giant Mazda and has held numerous events ranging from IMSA competition, CART, and IndyCar competition all the way down to grassroots racing and spec competition. During this time, the track underwent significant changes in order to also promote itself as an FIA licensed track to host MotoGP events, adding what now are Turns 3, 4, and 5 to the present day track layout. And no talk about Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca can be complete without mentioning the track's defining feature, the infamous Turn 8 and 8A combination, more commonly referred to as the Corkscrew. This 18-metre drop in elevation, in combination with a blind crest and apex, has provided a tough challenge for all comers, whether in the amateur ranks or all the way up in the pro scene.

This round will mark the last of the four disciplines to be featured in the Jack of All Trades. Featuring the always versatile Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car, the Jack of All Trades is returning back to CMS roots with some road racing once again. The territory and locale will be familiar even if the car is one that is not commonly used in CMS competition. But will the familiarity lead to complacency or will it push the drivers further than they ever have before?

    -------------------------

    The Orange Zone

The Orange Zone for the race will run from the start/finish line to the exit of Turn 4. Any incident that causes heavy wheel-to-wheel contact or results in a driver having to take a tow due a terminally damaged race car during the first lap of the race will be reviewed by the race review committee, possibly resulting in penalties for future races. Passing must be done with caution.

    Date: February 7th, 2018
Duration: 4 Hours (2 Hour Final Practice, Qualifying, Race)

    -------------------------

    Race Procedure

The race session on Wednesday will be a four (4) hour session starting at 6:00pm CST/7:00pm EST/0000 UTC and will run for the first two hours as a final practice to allow competitors to register for the race. Once practice is over, there will be a ten (10) minute open-qualifying session where all drivers will be allowed on the track to set the best, clean lap possible. Once the ten (10) minute qualifying session is complete, an eighteen (18) lap race will determine the night's finishing order.

The race will start as a standing start race. Once all drivers have taken to the grid, the start lights will appear. Once the red starter lights appear, the green lights will signal the start of the race. Once the green lights have come on, the race has started and passing is allowed. There are no full course cautions, however, any crashes that occur in a local yellow will be monitored and may be penalized by race control.

    -------------------------

    Open-Qualifying Procedures

All drivers will be allowed on the track to post their best time. Impeding the progress of another driver is strictly prohibited. If you are not on a hot lap but another driver that is comes up behind you, you will be required to move to the side and allow the hot lapping driver through. If a driver is found to be impeding the progress of another driver during qualifying, the offending driver must start the race from pit road.

    -------------------------

    Fast Repairs

Drivers will be allocated one (1) fast repair to use during the race. All other sessions, including practices and qualifying, will have unlimited fast repairs.

Round 4 results are up. Unfortunately quite a small crowd out here at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Hope to see more drivers out there in two weeks when we break out the 360 Sprint Cars at Eldora.

sorry to have missed the last 2 races, 1st one was on a day my dad had minor outpatient surgery and that kept me away and last time I was just wore out. I'll make the next 2 unless something drastic happens.
