Default First Race of the Trans Am Series is at Laguna Seca 1970's

Welcome to Laguna Seca 1970, the first CMS Trans Am race of the 2012 season
Laguna Seca Raceway is a paved road course used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, originally constructed in 1957 near both Salinas and Monterey, California, USA.
The current racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) in length with a 300 foot (91 m) elevation change. It has eleven turns, including the famous "Corkscrew" at Turns 8 and 8A. A variety of racing, exhibition and entertainment events are held at the raceway, ranging from superkarts to American Le Mans racing to music festivals.
The name Laguna Seca is Spanish for "dry lake". The area where the track is was originally a lake. The course was originally built around the lake, which has since dried up entirely. An artificial pond has since been added.

Orange Zone is until you are through turn #2

"ORANGE ZONE POLICY EXPLAINED." This zone constitutes the outlined Orange Zone area on the track during the 1st Lap. This zone should be regarded as a PASS WITH EXTREME CAUTION area except where the car ahead of you leaves the track during the first lap of any race. Should an incident occur because a driver chooses to attempt a pass within this “Orange Zone” the driver initiating the pass will be held responsible

This season we will be using the rFactor mod - Historix GT & Touring Car version 1.9
You can download the mod from the VirtualR.Net website: Historix Mod Download Link
Important: Since the mod uses content from Simbin’s GT Legends as base, a legal copy of GT Legends is required for the installation!

(this is a different track than originally posted, make sure you are using this track)

For Server Info go to: CMS Historics Server

    - All 2012 Lemans Series Rules apply to this series, please read the rules here: Leamans Series Rules

FOR PROPER PROTEST PROCEDURE - See rule #8 in the Series Rules link above

People exiting the pits during practice and qualifying MUST allow a driver doing a hot lap by and not attempt to race this driver during his hot lap. This isn't a rule, but I expect all drivers to show a little common courtesy to someone who is doing a hot lap by not getting in their way

I have, on two or three occasions in recent years, had a chance to spend a few hours watching the Skip Barber School cars at Laguna Seca (and once the J Russell school cars up at Sears/Infineon as well).

I'm a guy who really loves old maps...

    ...and history...

...so I couldn't help but note that the last time I was out there (about 2007), some parts of the original turn two "fast ess bends" were still visible, peeking out from underneath all the sand and gravel...and even though now cut off completely by the current concrete-block barriers. Also visible was part of what is shown here at turn 4...which lies on the wrong (the apex) side of the current alligator strip marking the current curve apex. In the seventies that corner sported a longer radius than seen today, I do believe.

These remnants here are often hard to spot today, but they can sometimes show up pretty well in the low light of the setting sun toward dusk...when they'll suddenly start to shimmer and shine in a way the rest of the new gravel or sand traps do not. Particularly if you are looking back toward the sun, with the old track lying in between.

I have always loved the Laguna track. Living in the San Francisco Bay area I've had the chance to both spectate and race there. A great place to view racing, fun and technically challenging to drive, in a glorious location. When I started running production cars in SCCA we ran the old layout. I was also lucky to do a Russell driving course there (before they moved to Sears).

My last race was the first time we ran the new layout. I managed to figure out the track a little quicker than my class running mates and held the first track record after qualification. In the race I spun a wheel bearing while leading my group and lost the track record to a friend who won. Such is racing. What fun.

that is very cool Jerry. I am very much looking forward to this race as well. I have been working hard to get the Mini into Race Shape for it. We'll see how it goes!

I have to say on the old course layout the corkscrew isn't a corkscrew as much as its a goat-trail between some boulders. If that is what they raced on back in the day, those guys had guts!

    See: Jerry Hamilton

The entry road from the highway to the south is kinda different too--a veritable hillclimb, with a grade in excess of 7% in spots, as best I recall.
