Nordschleife in the backyard, what a good definition, hehe. Not too much to report here, I was close to the couple upfront hoping for any incident or lack of pace because of the battle but neither happen. I made 2 or 3 mistakes and them got away. Bret was coming from behind at the end but not close enough.

Well, this was another of those weird races for me.

I had a bit more time to practice this time, and thanks to Patrice's tips regarding springs I was able to put down reasonable lap times. The qualify session started pretty well, I got a couple of laps with some decent times, but I noticed some stuttering, and realized my Oculus was not using ASW. So I decided to force it on using the CTRL+NUMPAD3 hotkey. That unfortunately had the side-effect to move the camera to another car, and for some reason I got stuck on that car, no matter what I did I could not move the camera back to my car (that also meant that I lost the menu and pretty much all control over the game). I had to kill AC, start it again and join the server. By the time I rejoined the server it was too late to have another chance for a better lap time, but at least it kept my times from the beginning of the session that was enough for the third place.

The race start was perfect for me, it looks like Christopher had some problems again, and I found myself leading the race again. This time we had about the same pace, he was faster for most of the track except for the last part where I could pull away a bit. After a while I was able to get a few seconds gap, but it was really difficult to keep focused, I saw Christopher closing in. As I got closer to my planned pit stop I started to have doubts on whether I planned to put enough fuel. I tried to figure out if I had enough fuel or not, watching the remaining laps with the current fuel and trying to guess how much I'll need after the pit stop, the same time that I tried to keep the car on track. That was not working very well, I made many mistakes, and had Christopher on my back. I decided to go for the pits and hope that fuel last for the race, as I had no idea how to add more fuel that what I set up.

After a few laps Chris went to the pits too, he came out in front, but with the fresh tires I was able to close the gap, and had a great fight, but all I could manage was to get side-by-side for a moment:

When there were about 5 minutes from the race I started to realize that I will run out of fuel before the end of the race, so I had to go to the pits, doing the tire swap and refuel again (I had no idea how to change the pit settings, remember that I had the VR headsets on, with the keyboard too far). Fortunately I kept my second place, it could have been worse.

All in all it was another great race, I had a chance to win this race, but with the too many small mistakes and bad pit strategy I was lucky to finish second.

    Results posted.

I was a little off-pace; this track needed more than my usual pre-race practice and I just didn't get around to it. Decided to run with half a fuel load as I was sure I was going to need tires mid-race, which definitely turned out to be the case. Being light on fuel I was able to hang with Patrice and Brett for maybe ten laps, before catching the end of the curb on the straight, which kicked me across the track and into the wall, and from there onto my roof. Luckily I kept rolling and landed on my wheels again - the car didn't actually feel any worse for the wear, but showed a lot of body damage, and my pace dropped by a couple of seconds. Hung in there to grind it out after that. Looked like a great battle up front!

Standings updated too. Chris is steadily climbing the board, can the leaders hold him off till the end??

BTW I mis-spoke in chat when I said I'd see you all at the finale- we have two races left, see you at both!

That's a good question Michael. At his current pace Chris keeps pulling out a rabbit when it matters. My guess it will take some concerted effort by several of the faster drivers to hold back his momentum. Sure bliss to watch the competition.

My race was somewhere between Hernan and Michael's. I had more time to prepare for this event than previous ones. And I sure am glad because that was a real challenge of a track. Great variety of elevation, turns and straights. Mihaly's report explains why I ended up with P2 in qualy, even though I was still getting new PBs during qualifying. So I was looking forward to the race.

When the lights went green, Mihaly sure took off. I couldn't believe his confidence and car control with loaded fuel. In fact, Hernan was looking pretty racy then too and was able to pull ahead confidently. I ended up trying to hold P4 with Patrice and Michael occasionally filling the mirrors. I was comfortable enough with the car to be fairly consistent at a pace faster than most practice. But I didn't have anything for P1 thru P3. At least not until late in the race when I was gaining on Hernan. He must not have taken tires during his pit or something. Thanks to Michael for letting us drive thru. But in the end, I could not catch Hernan and I am sure getting by would have been difficult at best anyway. So it was mainly a race of effort to stay in P4, nothing as exciting as Chris and Mihaly's race.

For any of the others who have raced with us before, watching Chris and Mihaly in the opening and last third of the race is worth the time of a D/L. Great racing between those two. And I hope to see all of you in the future. Ken, Ray, Jerry, Tom, anyone else? Don't throw away those Escort keys just yet!

I was plnning on being there. Probably wise I didnt make it. I never found a way around this track and the last thing anyone needed here was a rolling roadblock. Fortunately about an hour before the race my wife decided she didnt want to cook. She did ask about an hour aho how my race went....lol

Well, just when I thought I was getting faster with the Escort, I get nearly lapped...
I'll sure have to study Mihaly and Chris drive style carefully, I don't know where that 1.5 s/lap went...

Anyhow congrats guys for this fantastic run.
I was expecting many costly mistakes on this crazy track, but that didn't happen, except poor Michael flipping his ride right in front of me.

I had a pretty good time pressing hard to catch-up Brette, but he kept his cool and I slowly lost him before and after pitstops.

Mihaley's post describes it all pretty well, and the pic shows just how close he was to regaining the lead after his first stop--actually ahead by about a tire's diameter the way I read it, but on the wrong side/outside for the upcoming corner (T6). As he said after the race, actually concluding a pass would have been pretty difficult, and that was my thought too when chasing him early on: "Unless he really drops a wheel and has to come out of the throttle to regain stability or traction, I just don't see how I can get by." But you have to stay close enough for it to matter too, and that took everything I had...which still wasn't enough. He started pulling away after six laps or so, and it took all I had just to drop back slowly.

I really thought the pace we were setting would play into Hernan's hands with the smoke coming off his tires (and mine too, I'm sure), but maybe a one-hour race doesn't completely destroy the tires after all (and I think it would have here, if anywhere).

After our pitstops Mihaly was about five seconds back, but it didn't take him long to get right on my bumper and occasionally alongside elsewhere too I think, not just going over the summit crest there (his pic). I'm really fortunate that he fell back at the end, as both my shoulders were on fire until he eased off (sucking in too much air and not enough fuel). What a workout!

Huge fun, this track, and now that I've seen it I will make a point of racing it whenever I can.

[BTW, I didn't really have problems at the start this time--he's just a rocket-ship coming off the line!]
