    Default Question: Post race results

The DDP has historically not posted up the race results, but there are both pros and cons as far as learning and improving to this decision. Therefore I wanted to ask the DDP students and instructors hat they think

If you are not familiar, here is an example race result

Pros: You can compare lap times among the racers. You can look at your consistency in laptimes. You can see if there were phases in a race where you did well or poorly. You can see gaps and how well you managed your race, you tires, fuel, etc.

Cons: The DDP does not race; we practice in a race setting. We do not care who won or lost. It should be irrelevant to the learning experience. Example of using the sessions as learning: In past seasons people have dropped off the pace to allow a competitor to catch up so they could practice running close together.

Phil, I agree with you, regarding the learning experience of looking at the post race data. Also, it introduces the students to the SLS system, something else everyone will need to know how to setup and use, once they move up to league racing.
Just add some disclaimers in the respective posts, indicating that results are for teaching purposes only and that the races are NOT competitive, and that learning is the priority.

    Just my 2 cents.

BTW, you have put together and excellent program here, and I will definitely be dropping in, for some refreshers, and to learn some new techniques!

I voted no. I don't think Race Results make a difference in DDP. The results don't reflect what was going on in the "race". I can remember starting out in DDP, struggling actually, and having Stephan King (one of our best racers) dropping back in the pack to encourage and give me pointers. That's what DDP is about, not who is on top for what is supposed to be a learning experience. If you post results, people will race to be on top of the chart, "learning be damned". Tom, thanks for your opinion. This is the kind of thoughtful discussion I wanted to encourage. I too remember King and others doing that, and want to encourage that in this new season. Then again, after nearly every race I've had here at the CMS I stare at the race report stats and do some introspection on how I drove.

To be honest, I posted this question and I have not voted because I'm conflicted and I want to see what other people think about the issue. It is not an easy call.

To expand on my vote. I believe the replays are more beneficial than the results in the DDP. You can review the fast drivers lines, etc. in comparison to yours and also see the mistakes you made and have feedback to analyze your performance. We use YouTube videos of others for training, why not have the ability to see our own (DDP class) performance. Much can be learned from seeing yours and someone elses mistakes in a relaxed mode in replay. The doubling effect of seeing what someone has described is beneficial for training.

Posting the replay could be beneficial, but the results are of no value.

+1 to TCav's comments. Results don't matter, learning and fun do.

In a learning setting seeing what you did correctly and what you did wrong will help more than where you finished. Some think your final result is how good you are. That IS NOT the case here. For instance, when I am learning a new track I study the layout and practice sections at a time and not the entire track. When I feel good in one section I more on to the next. So while I may be 2 seconds slower than the fast guys, once I put all the sectors together in one lap I might be .5 quicker. This is supposed to be about learning how to improve and go faster, not WINNING......

Results can be used as a measure of improvement, not just who won. I like to see the stats to see how I performed, not who won, I already know that. But overtakes and changes lap by lap and lap times used with the replays can also help in one's improvement. If no one wants it posted I'd like it sent via PM if possible. If not, no big deal.
