Default 2/7 DDP At Barber Club Course

The Club Course at Barber Motorsports park is easy to learn, but very challenging to master track. It includes the corkscrew, a defining feature of Barber.

Blue track is Club Course we will be running

The class topic for the night is: Seating position, vision, control input, and steering technique, and I will be the instructor for the class.

    Here is the schedule
(All times are U.S. Central time, currently GMT -6)
    7:00 PM – 8:00 PM = Open Practice
8:00 PM – 8:30 PM = Classroom (Instructor Presentation, Roundtable, etc)
    8:30 PM – 9:00 PM = Practice
    9:00 PM – 9:15 PM = Race Qualifying
    9:15 PM – 9:20 PM = Race Warm Up
    9:20 PM – 9:40 PM = Race 1
    9:45 PM – 10:05 PM = Race 2 (Reverse Qualifying Order)
    10:05 PM – ? = Post Race Discussion

This thread is for two things. First it is a place for people to discuss running the track, setup, etc. Second, it is a place to discuss the topic for the evening, make suggestions, and ask questions (to be answered during the class).

    Practice server is up!

    Reference for the class

    Optional Prework
Seating position, hand position, and vision (pg 4-5)

Phil I'm not seeing where to put set ups. My user data folder doesn't have any track or set up folders in it. I'm running win 7 64bit so there is no my documents rFactor folders either. Any idea where I find set ups?

Let me guess, you installed to the default "Program Files" location? In that case rFactor doesn't have permission to write to its own directory so Windows fakes it out with a "shadow" directory. As I recall, it's in c:\users\you\AppData\Roaming\Program Files (x86)\rFactor

And AppData is a hidden folder which makes it that much more difficult to find. Make sure you have Windows set to display hidden and system folder and then you should be able to browse to it. This is why it's recommended when installing rFactor on Windows 7 to use a location outside of "Program Files"

Wow the things you learn here! Thanks David.

I think I'll just remove and reinstall it rather then fight it forever. So do I just let it create the folder on the C drive then? Any other tips? Can I delete all those weird cars in the initial install or would that mess up the ones we actually use?

Try looking here in your Program Files or Program (x86) where you installed rFactor then \rFactor\ User data\Your player name\Settings\Name of Track.

You must have downloaded track first so it will show up then place .svm file there.

I download and extract/save to desktop and drag file to Track instead of browsing to correct location.

Thanks Vern. Yep I have been all through every folder in rFactor looking for it. The problem is in user data there is no player name folders. I have 2 players set up, Jim Stainer and Test and I can't find them anywhere. The other odd thing I found out looking for this is if I right click and run as administrator the program hangs when it loads and won't start. So something is messed up and I think I'm just going to start over. I have all my track down loads backed up and my settings noted in a word doc so it's easy to start over.

By the way you bring up a good point. What is the best way to install cars and tracks? Right now I down load them to my back up drive then copy and past the files into the appropriate place in the rFactor program folders. Is there a better way?

Some users put everything in a separate folder such as "Games" instead of Program Files or Program Files (X86). The key is to make sure you extract them to the right location. I put them in Program Files (X86) and haven't had any problems after I learned not to let them go anywhere else. The car mods have a lot more files so I usually extract them into the rFactor directory. Track files I extract to the desktop and drag them into locations. I do this for any file that is just placed somewhere such as a .SVM file to a track.

I download everything to my main 1TB drive and then backup to an external. I have 4 copies of rFactor for different mods with different names such as rFactor-Fun, rFactor-Dirt, rFactor-Historic, etc.

I leave some long loading Zip files in the "Downloads" folder until they're no longer useful and Plugins that I reuse on new installations and purge the others when I determine everything is working properly.

Have you tried running the game using the users you set up and then saving the setup using the default to see if it shows up?

There is a "minimal" rfactor installer you can download that doesn't install all the cars and tracks. I used that to install to c:\rfactor_ddp. I then install the DDP cars and tracks there. Win 7 won't protect that folder so all your settings will end up in the expected location.

The less cars and tracks you have in each rfactor install, the faster it will load and the less chance of mod/track conflicts. I create a clean minimal install for each series.

    Thanks David.

I bought the rFactor disc so can you point me in the direction of that minimal installer? Or is that an option when I reinstall with the disk?
