Default Great Race at Daytona! Anderson Wins, Lee Wins in Class! - Stories Here!!

We had a great race tonight at Daytona Road Course in our Speedweeks Rolex Celebration Event!!!! We had a somewhat small group with 8 drivers, 6 in the 252 class and 2 in the RMI. But that didnt keep us from having a great race. There was lots of drama througout and we will have a full story soon. Bob Dunlop and Tim Collier were on the front row with Dunlop taking the pole ... in the end David Anderson would win the event overall in the 252 class with Rich Lee finishing 2nd overall and P1 in the RMI Class. Eddie Lynch rounded out the podium in 3rd overall and 2nd in the RMI class ...

Here is a race stats report

Huge thanks to Charlie Gog for the server and for setting this up!!!

This evening's race was a lot of fun, and regardless of the outcome (that's what someone who crashes out of the race says) I had a very very fun time!! It was great chasing Bob the first half of the race (thanks again bob for letting me use your setup, it was great!!!), and then just barely making it to my pit stall to get fuel....whew!! But with about 15 minutes to go I lost control of my car in the high banks of Turn 4 and rolled the car over on it's roof and slid down the track for several hundred feet!!

Watching the end of the race was thrilling, as David was nearing an empty tank and Rich was closing in quickly!!!

A big thank you to Charlie Gog for setting up this event and the only way it could have been better was if Charlie had been able to race with us. Hope to see you there next time, and keep us posted on the new computer!!

And congratulations to David, Rich and Eddie Lynch for their top 3 finishes tonight...and to Tony Boynton for surviving a wild night!

Man that was a lot of FUN!!! The Daytona Road Course has been my favorite for a good few years now; I'll never pass up a chance to race on it.

I had my share of unforced errors (as always), but didn't hit anything and didn't break my car so I was able to learn from my mistakes and keep going.

The RMI had a larger fuel tank and sucked less gas per lap so I think that totally evened out the two classes for an hour long race such as this. The battle at the end with David running on fumes was great ! My fastes lap was my last. I did the math, and I don't think he would have finished the last three minutes. Too bad we weren't able to find out.

Great race guys and THANKS! to Charlie for setting it up!!!
    Rich.

Congrats David! I downloaded the mod and the track but I could not find the cars when I loaded the game! I am almost positive I have them in the right directory.

Thanks Guys!! That was really fun, and I was especially excited to have some success with the win at Daytona Road Course. I used to love that track so much back in N2003 when we ran the TPTCC and GTP Mods. I remember having a great race in our KRC Road Warrior Division one time, where on that night I was fortunate enough to get another win -- barely holding off Jeff Winter. Here's a picture from back in the day of that race (attached).

As far as last nights race goes, I too have to thank Bob Dunlop for the setup Help. It was huge. I had elected to go with a 252 Class car, and it was not very stable for me in the banking. Bob whipped up a very good and stable setup that I build a little and tweaked from. That was good enough to qualify me in 3rd. The first two laps of the race were terrible for me as I spun twice in the International Horse Shoe, and was dropped back to last place. At that point I tried to just settle down and get into a Rythmn. I finally caught up to Rich Lee who was running in 3rd, and I had a great race with him for a long while (about 5 laps or so). He was so much better in the infield because he could drive deeper in ... so it took me getting a great run out of the Bus Stop to draft and pass him down the front stretch. At that point, I came in for a pit stop and had a good one. With Bob's trouble, that put me closer to a chance. When Rich came in and pit I found myself in the lead, then it got into a worry situation as I knew I was short on gas. Luckily I nursed it enough the last 5 laps with Tim's coaching on ventrilo to save enough for the win.

Was a great race, and thanks again to Charlie for putting it together. Those of you that didnt' make it out -- really missed out on a fun one!
We'll have to do it again next year.
